Job Description
The Saint Louis Zoo is a world-renowned zoological park dedicated to wildlife conservation, education, and providing exceptional visitor experiences. Located in the vibrant city of St. Louis, Missouri, the Zoo cares for approximately 12,000 animals, many of which are endangered species. It is deeply committed to local and global conservation efforts aimed at saving wildlife and their habitats. The Zoo operates with a strong set of guiding principles known as the Three Keys: Animals Always, People Matter, and Operational Excellence, alongside Core Values which include Community, Creativity, Openness, Integrity, and Life-Work Balance. These values shape the culture and work environment, fostering a positive, innovative, and inclusive workplace that prioritizes the well-being of employees and the community it serves.
As a significant cultural and recreational landmark in St. Louis, the Zoo hosts over 200 private events annually in addition to 49 public or ticketed events, making it a bustling hub for community engagement and celebration. The position available is for a part-time, seasonal Event Facilitator, based in St. Louis, MO, within the Events Department of the Zoo. This role is classified as non-exempt and hourly, with a starting wage of $16.00 per hour. The position requires availability from March through December with 4-6 shifts per month, including the possibility of working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
The Event Facilitator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth execution of events hosted at the Zoo. These individuals act as the on-site point person for the event, bringing the host's vision to life by managing all event details on the event day. They coordinate the setup of event spaces according to predefined plans, liaise between the Zoo staff and outside vendors, and work closely with various departments such as Culinary, Catering, Attractions, Audio Visual, Custodial Services, Education, Facilities Management, Guest Experience, Safety and Security, and Volunteers to ensure a seamless event experience. The Event Facilitator is responsible for managing the event timeline, troubleshooting any issues that arise, and providing excellent front-line customer service to hosts and guests alike.
This role demands a positive, energetic individual capable of working independently and effectively within a team. The candidate must be able to set priorities, multitask, and exhibit flexibility under pressure. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and the capacity to stand and walk for extended periods, possibly outdoors in varying weather conditions.
The role not only offers the chance to contribute to the success of unique and memorable events at a beloved community institution but also represents an opportunity to be part of the Saint Louis Zoo’s mission to connect people with wildlife in meaningful ways. Moreover, working in St. Louis offers a rich cultural experience in a city known for its free world-class attractions, vibrant arts and culture scene, abundant public parks, trails, and waterways, and a welcoming community known for its warmth and hospitality. The Event Facilitator position is ideal for motivated individuals eager to gain experience in event coordination within an enthusiastic and dynamic environment focused on conservation and public engagement.
