Job Description
The Phoenix Zoo is a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife conservation, education, and providing exceptional visitor experiences. Located in Phoenix, Arizona, the zoo attracts millions of visitors annually who come to enjoy its diverse animal exhibits, educational programs, and special events. The organization prides itself on creating a welcoming environment where the public can learn about wildlife in an engaging and interactive manner. The Zoo also hosts numerous private and corporate events throughout the year, utilizing its unique facilities and picturesque settings to create memorable experiences for all guests.
The role of Event Facilitator within the Group Events department is a full-time, regular, non-exempt position that plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless execution of private events for social, corporate, and internal clients. Reporting to the Event Operations Manager, the Event Facilitator coordinates logistical elements on the day of the event, collaborating closely with Corporate and Social Event Sales Staff as well as various internal and external partners. This position offers a wage of $21.50 per hour and requires a dynamic individual who can manage event preparation, execution, completion, and cleanup efficiently to guarantee successful events. The Event Facilitator may also supervise additional set-up staff when necessary, making leadership skills an important aspect of the role.
In this role, the Event Facilitator will provide exemplary guest service by maintaining a positive, professional, and helpful attitude. Duties encompass working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including rental companies, caterers, bartenders, Park Rangers, and other departmental staff to assist in setting up, breaking down, and supporting events of varying scales and types. The Event Facilitator ensures that necessary furnishings, equipment, and services are adequately arranged as per client or vendor needs while adhering to facility rules and state regulations, particularly regarding alcohol service. Monitoring inventory for liquor and bar supplies is another important responsibility, requiring coordination with the Event Operations Manager for replenishment.
Additionally, the Event Facilitator oversees the set-up and facilitation of alcohol service at private and internal events by enforcing Phoenix Zoo House Rules along with Arizona State Liquor Laws. Reporting facility or equipment issues promptly and assisting with special events and WILD Birthdays programs further demonstrate the diverse nature of this role. This career demands flexibility, initiative, teamwork, and the physical capability to meet the job requirements such as lifting, bending, and working on uneven surfaces. The Phoenix Zoo values adaptability and professionalism given the dynamic and sometimes fast-paced environment tied to event execution.
Candidates interested in this role should be prepared to work varied schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays. The position requires the ability to pass pre-employment background checks, DMV checks, and drug tests, as well as possession of a valid driver's license. The Phoenix Zoo’s commitment to a high standard of guest experience combined with its conservation mission makes the Event Facilitator position both impactful and rewarding, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to an organization dedicated to wildlife, education, and exceptional social and corporate event delivery.
