The role of Event Coordinator and Michaels Team Member based in the Tacoma, WA store focuses on delivering an exceptional customer experience by planning, coordinating, and facilitating events such as children’s birthday parties and other craft-related classes or gatherings within the store. This unique position combines customer service with event management to create memorable, fun, and engaging experiences for guests of all ages, from young children to senior citizens. The coordinator is responsible for managing multiple events simultaneously, ensuring each one is well-organized, enjoyable, and aligned with the company's brand promises of quality and customer satisfaction. In addition to handling administrative tasks such as client communication, scheduling, and paperwork, the role often involves hands-on creative interaction, including instructing craft projects and performing activities like face painting.
On the retail side, the Event Coordinator doubles as a Michaels Team Member, assisting customers with their shopping needs by helping them locate products, providing solutions tailored to their creative projects, and conducting smooth and friendly checkout processes. They also encourage customers to enroll in the Michaels Rewards program and private label credit cards to maximize the value and benefits available to shoppers. The position requires participation in stock management including truck unloading, stocking, and maintaining merchandise presentation to uphold store recovery standards and operational excellence.
This role demands a mix of energetic enthusiasm, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to manage job-related stress effectively, especially when engaging with children and other event participants. Physical requirements include the ability to spend long periods standing, moving throughout the store, and performing manual tasks such as lifting, bending, and reaching. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in event coordination or retail customer service
- Energetic and enthusiastic personality
- Ability to interact effectively with guests of all ages
- Good communication skills including written and verbal
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, bend, lift, carry, reach, and climb ladders
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and early mornings

Job Duties
- Plan and coordinate multiple events including children’s birthday parties and craft classes
- Engage with clients of all ages to create fun and creative environments
- Demonstrate and instruct participants in craft projects and activities such as face painting
- Facilitate and implement party add-ons like goody bags and balloons
- Communicate events clearly with clients and team members
- Complete administrative tasks including answering emails, phone calls, and paperwork
- Adjust event plans based on client feedback and create backup plans
- Ensure client satisfaction and uphold store cleanliness and safety standards
- Set up, break down, and clean before and after events
- Help customers shop and locate products
- Provide fast and friendly checkout experience
- Promote and enroll customers in Rewards program and private label credit cards
- Assist with Omni channel processes including Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store
- Participate in truck unload, stocking, planograms, and merchandise recovery
- Support shrink and safety programs and adhere to company policies
- Maintain store cleanliness including restrooms and public areas
- Cross trained in custom framing sales and production
- Perform other duties as assigned
