Job Description
The Michaels Companies, Inc. is the leading destination for creativity and celebration in North America. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with their online platforms Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Michaels is renowned for providing an extensive range of arts and crafts supplies, custom framing, and creative classes designed to fuel imagination and foster joyful experiences. Owned by The Michaels Companies, Inc., the Artistree brand specializes in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing the company's ability to meet diverse artistic needs.
This particular position is part-time and based at the Michaels store in Citrus Heights, CA. Offering a competitive hourly wage ranging from $16.90 to $19.70, this role also may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on state and local laws. Michaels places strong emphasis on team member wellbeing, offering comprehensive benefits such as 401(k) plans with employer match, medical, dental, and vision coverage, telemedicine, tuition assistance, and many others tailored to support employees and their families.
The job focuses on event coordination, particularly managing and facilitating children’s birthday parties and craft events, while ensuring a positive and engaging customer experience within the store. The role requires multitasking abilities, creativity, and excellent interpersonal skills to connect with guests of all ages—from young children to seniors. Candidates will be responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of multiple events, including crafts, face painting, and party enhancements such as goody bags and balloons. Communication with clients and team members is vital to adapt and enhance events based on feedback, guaranteeing client satisfaction and maintaining company standards.
Beyond event management, the role includes delivering excellent customer service by assisting shoppers in locating products, educating customers about rewards programs and special credit cards, and providing efficient checkout experiences. Team members will participate in operational duties such as unloading trucks, stocking merchandise, maintaining displays, and cleanliness around the store. Proficiency in tasks such as Store in Stock Optimization and adherence to safety and shrink prevention programs are also essential.
Physical stamina is required due to the demands of standing for long periods, lifting boxes, and operating ladders for high shelving. The work environment includes both climate-controlled retail spaces and some non-climate-controlled stockrooms, with occasional outdoor activities such as retrieving carts or unloading trucks. The company is committed to inclusion and provides reasonable accommodations for individuals requiring adjustments to perform job functions. Michaels fosters a positive culture encouraging respectful interactions and ongoing professional development.
Overall, this role offers a dynamic opportunity for energetic and organized professionals passionate about crafts, customer service, and event planning in a well-established retail environment that champions creativity and community engagement. Candidates experienced in retail and working with children’s events will find this position particularly rewarding and stimulating.
