Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retail corporation specializing in arts and crafts, providing creative products and services to a broad customer base across North America. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, the company operates over 1,300 stores in 49 states and Canada and maintains an online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Known as the go-to destination for crafting, decorating, and celebration needs, Michaels also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. With a mission to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration, Michaels prides itself on offering a wide variety of craft supplies, framing services, and event-hosting opportunities for customers of all ages and skill levels.
The position being offered at the Michaels store located in Alexandria, VA, is a multifaceted role focusing on event coordination, customer experience, and operational support. This role is pivotal to creating an enjoyable and engaging environment within the store by planning and facilitating events such as children's birthday parties and craft classes. The individual in this position is responsible for ensuring guests experience a stress-free, fun, and creative atmosphere, enhancing customer satisfaction and fostering community engagement.
Key responsibilities include managing multiple events simultaneously, engaging clients across a diverse age range, and demonstrating craft activities like face painting. The coordinator also handles party-related logistics, such as goody bags and balloons, communicates effectively with clients and store staff, and completes administrative tasks including emails and phone calls. Event planning requires adaptability to client feedback and the ability to prepare contingency plans to ensure smooth operations.
In addition to event planning, the role demands strong customer service skills, aiding customers in locating products and managing a swift, friendly checkout. It involves supporting omnichannel shopping experiences such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Merchandise duties are also a key part of the job, encompassing truck unloading, stocking, merchandising, recovery, and maintenance to maintain store presentation and compliance with company standards.
The position expects a candidate who possesses a vibrant, energetic personality with excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with children’s events. Effective communication abilities, organizational skills, and the capacity to handle stress gracefully are essential. This role operates in a physically demanding retail environment, requiring prolonged standing, lifting, and operation of equipment like ladders and heat presses. Flexibility regarding work hours, including nights, weekends, and early mornings, is necessary.
Michaels values inclusivity and equal opportunity employment, encouraging candidates of all backgrounds and abilities to apply. Reasonable accommodations are available to ensure all employees can perform their duties effectively. Benefits include comprehensive health insurance packages, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts, underscoring the company’s commitment to employee well-being and growth.
This job offers a unique opportunity to be part of a well-established retail environment that champions creativity and community connection, providing both personal and professional development within a vibrant and supportive workplace.
