Job Description

The University of South Carolina (USC) is a prestigious public university system dedicated to transforming the lives of South Carolinians through education, research, and community engagement. With eight campuses across the state ranging from the flagship research campus in Columbia to comprehensive universities in Aiken, Upstate, and Beaufort, USC serves over 50,000 students. The university system also includes Palmetto College campuses that offer flexible degree programs through in-person, online, or blended learning formats. USC is deeply committed to service, aiming to build healthier and more educated communities throughout South Carolina and beyond. The university values diversity, equal opportunity, and inclusivity, welcoming a broad spectrum of individuals regardless of age, race, gender identity, or veteran status.

The position of Event Coordinator at USC presents an exciting opportunity to join the Division of Administration and Finance within the DAF Special Events department on the Columbia campus. This full-time, professional role involves planning, managing, and executing a wide array of events that support the university's mission and foster engagement within the campus community and beyond. The role is pivotal in supporting high-profile areas such as the Office of the President, Board of Trustees, Division of Development, and Communications Department, as well as collaborating with other university departments and colleges.

As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of special events, from conceptualization to final evaluation. This includes coordinating on-campus and off-campus venues, arranging catering services, décor, photography, audiovisual needs, and entertainment. You will serve as a key liaison between internal university departments and external vendors, ensuring the smooth and successful execution of events. The role demands a high level of organizational skill, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Beyond logistics, you will represent the Office of Special Events on various university committees and collaborate extensively with departments such as development, student affairs, alumni relations, athletics, and veterans’ affairs. Your contribution will extend to assisting with the hospitality and guest management at major athletic events like football, basketball, and baseball, as well as supporting commencement ceremonies and special programming linked to the university’s capital campaign.

The Event Coordinator will also support the President’s House operations, coordinating logistics for special events, tours, overnight guests, and seasonal décor. Additionally, maintaining event content and photo galleries on the university's SEO website, distributing communications, and managing event-related databases constitute important facets of the position. Proficiency or willingness to learn software tools such as Microsoft Office, event management platforms, Omni CMS, Mailchimp, and university systems like Blackbaud and PeopleSoft is essential.

This role offers a competitive salary range of $52,526 to $65,246 annually, with a work schedule generally Monday through Friday, including occasional nights and weekends to meet event demands. It is a 12-month position with a 37.5-hour workweek located in Richland County, Columbia campus. USC provides a comprehensive benefits package including health and life insurance, retirement programs, paid tuition, dependent scholarships, paid leave, paid parental leave, and professional development opportunities.

Join a dynamic and creative team dedicated to delivering memorable, meaningful events that inspire, connect, and celebrate the diverse USC community. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional passionate about event management and eager to make a significant impact in a vibrant university setting.
