Job Description
Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc. (KCS) is a well-established nonprofit organization founded in 1973 and operating as a 501(c)(3) entity. With over four decades of committed service, KCS has developed into a multi-service social service provider supported by government agencies, foundations, corporations, and individual donors. The organization focuses on serving the needs of the Korean American and immigrant communities across the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area. It offers a comprehensive range of programs that include education, workforce development, immigration services, public health research, and support for older adults. KCS operates several centers across multiple locations including Bayside, NY; Tenafly, NJ; Flushing, NY; Corona, NY; New York, NY; Fort Lee, NJ; Palisades Park, NJ; and more. This expansive network is designed to maximize accessibility and community impact while addressing a diverse array of social service needs.
The Event Coordinator role within KCS’s Development and Communications Department, based at the headquarters in Bayside, NY, plays an essential role in advancing the organization’s mission. This full-time position involves planning, coordinating, and executing various fundraising events, community programs, and special events that are crucial for building relationships with donors and supporting the organization’s funding goals. The coordinator manages event logistics including registration, vendor coordination, volunteer management, event setup, and post-event follow-ups, ensuring that every event meets KCS’s standards for success and community engagement. In addition to event responsibilities, the role involves maintaining event timelines, checklists, and project schedules to guarantee effective execution.
Furthermore, the Event Coordinator helps create and edit promotional materials, manage social media and website content, and support marketing campaigns aimed at promoting KCS programs and events. This role also supports fundraising campaigns, sponsorship outreach, and donor stewardship activities, working collaboratively with program staff to bolster outreach efforts and communications. Proficiency in social media platforms, email marketing tools like Mailchimp, and graphic design familiarity with tools such as Canva are preferred to enhance the organization’s communication impact.
Candidates for this position should hold or be pursuing a bachelor’s degree or possess equivalent experience, with a demonstrated interest in nonprofit work, community engagement, and social services. A willingness to learn about issues affecting Korean American and immigrant communities is essential. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, strong organizational skills, multitasking, time management, and attention to detail are critical for success in this role. Korean language proficiency is preferred but not required.
Physical demands include the occasional lifting of materials up to 20 lbs for event or office setup and the ability to respond promptly in emergency situations. Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends to support events is necessary. The position offers a competitive salary range of $50,000 to $55,000 annually and a generous benefits package including paid time off, sick days, health insurance, and retirement plans. KCS is committed to creating an inclusive work environment and makes reasonable accommodations to support employees with disabilities.
Overall, this role is ideal for individuals passionate about nonprofit community service, effective event management, and communication. It offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting a respected organization that uplifts immigrant and underserved populations in the metropolitan area. Applicants interested in contributing their skills to a vibrant, mission-driven team are encouraged to apply by submitting a cover letter and resume to the Senior Development Manager at KCS.
