Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retail destination in North America dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as an extensive online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Michaels is renowned for offering a broad range of arts and crafts supplies, custom framing services through its subsidiary Artistree, and an array of creative classes and events that cater to customers of all ages. This company’s commitment to inspiring creativity makes it a top choice for both hobbyists and professionals alike in the arts and crafts community.
The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store located in Denver-Lakewood/Wadsworth, CO, is a dynamic and customer-focused position designed to create memorable, engaging, and stress-free event experiences within the store setting. This part-time position, with a pay range of $15.16 to $17.70 per hour, involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes. The primary goal is to provide an environment that is fun, creative, and welcoming for guests ranging from young children to older adults.
As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for orchestrating multiple events simultaneously, including crafting lessons and special celebrations. This position demands energy, enthusiasm, and excellent interpersonal skills to engage customers of all ages, ensuring they have an enjoyable experience. The coordinator will also perform hands-on activities such as demonstrating craft projects and facilitating party add-ons like goody bags and balloons, maintaining Michaels’ high standards for client satisfaction.
Beyond event planning, this role involves supporting the overall customer experience by assisting shoppers in finding products and checking out efficiently. Event Coordinators participate in operational tasks like unloading trucks, restocking merchandise, and maintaining the store's visual standards, contributing directly to the store’s smooth operation and brand promise. Additionally, this role supports various company programs to maintain safety, shrink prevention, and compliance with legal regulations.
Strong communication and organizational skills are essential as the coordinator manages client communications, administrative duties, and contingency planning for events. The job requires physical stamina due to the need for extended periods of standing, lifting, bending, and working within the store environment, including potential outdoor tasks. Michaels prioritizes inclusivity and accessibility, offering reasonable accommodations to support employees in performing job functions effectively.
Michaels values team member wellbeing and offers robust benefits to both full-time and part-time employees, including health insurance options (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance programs, and generous employee discounts. The company fosters a respectful and positive workplace culture, emphasizing teamwork, commitment to the company vision, and excellent customer service. If you are passionate about crafting, customer interaction, and event coordination, this role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to a beloved creative community while developing valuable retail and event management skills.
