Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a prominent retail establishment specializing in arts and crafts supplies, known as North America's leading destination for creativity and celebration. With over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, Michaels is recognized for providing a vast array of crafting products, custom framing solutions, and engaging workshops and events. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels continues to fuel the joy of creativity for millions of customers, fostering artistic expression and memorable celebrations. The company is committed to inclusivity and offering supportive work environments for its team members, boasting a diverse range of benefits, including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts.

The Store Event Coordinator role at the Michaels location in Richmond Short Pump, VA, is a dynamic position focused on orchestrating memorable in-store events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other engaging activities that enhance the customer experience. This role requires a blend of creativity, organization, and exceptional customer service skills. The coordinator will be responsible for planning multiple events simultaneously, ensuring all participants—from young children to adults—enjoy a fun, stress-free, and inspiring atmosphere. Responsibilities include facilitating craft project demonstrations, face painting, organizing party add-ons like goody bags and balloons, and maintaining clear communication with clients and store teams to tailor events to customer needs.

Beyond event management, the position entails active engagement in retail duties to maintain operational excellence. This includes assisting customers in product selection, providing fast and friendly checkout services, and educating customers about Michaels' Rewards program and credit card offerings. The coordinator will also support omni-channel retail processes, such as buy online, pickup in store (BOPIS), and ship from store (SFS), and play a role in inventory management through unloading trucks, stocking shelves, and completing merchandise recovery tasks.

This position demands strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced retail environment. Candidates are expected to have experience working with children and children’s events, demonstrating enthusiasm and energy in delivering exceptional customer experiences. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, perform regular bending, lifting, and reaching tasks, and operate in both climate-controlled and non-controlled environments, including outdoor settings as necessary.

Michaels values safety, cleanliness, respect, and teamwork, with an emphasis on adherence to company policies and standards. The role offers an opportunity to become cross-trained in custom framing sales and production, adding versatility and depth to the team member’s skill set. Overall, this position is ideal for an energetic individual who enjoys interacting with diverse age groups, loves crafting, and excels in delivering exceptional customer service while supporting retail operations.
