Job Description

The City of Kentwood is a thriving community within Kentwood's 21 square miles, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents through extensive recreational opportunities and community-focused events. The Parks and Recreation Department manages over 15 parks that cover more than 300 acres, providing a variety of amenities such as splashpads, pickleball courts, playgrounds, and numerous gathering spaces. In addition to maintaining these spaces, the department oversees 13 plus miles of non-motorized trails, facilitating outdoor activities and promoting healthy lifestyles. With a commitment to community engagement, Kentwood Parks and Recreation offers over 1000 recreation programs and community events annually and is on the path to inaugurate a new Community Center. The department also manages a community farmers' market and a range of rental facilities that serve as versatile venues for local events and gatherings. The City of Kentwood prides itself on creating a welcoming, vibrant, and active environment where residents can connect, enjoy nature, and participate in enriching activities. Joining the City of Kentwood means becoming part of a team dedicated to public service, community wellness, and fostering a resilient and dynamic local culture.

The role of an Event Bartender within the Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department is a vital position focused on delivering high-quality beverage service at various community events and facility rentals. This part-time position offers a flexible schedule tailored to event timings, which typically include evenings and weekends, ensuring coverage when community engagement is at its peak. As an Event Bartender, you will be responsible for preparing and serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in accordance with established standards. A key element of the job involves verifying the age of guests and ensuring compliance with all relevant alcohol service laws and regulations to provide a safe, enjoyable environment for all attendees.

This role requires someone who is not only skilled in beverage preparation but also excels in customer service, capable of creating a friendly and professional atmosphere. Your responsibilities extend to setting up and breaking down bar areas, maintaining cleanliness and organization, and managing inventory and supplies to ensure smooth event operations. Monitoring guest behavior and alcohol consumption to uphold safety standards is essential, alongside handling transactions accurately and maintaining sales and inventory records. Effective communication and teamwork with event staff, supervisors, and security personnel are critical to successfully executing each event.

Ideal candidates for this position are outgoing, dependable, and thrive in fast-paced, customer-focused environments. The ability to remain calm and professional while managing busy events, coupled with strong multitasking and organizational skills, is highly valued. The City of Kentwood supports its employees with an hourly pay rate of $25.00 and a range of benefits including an Employee Assistance Program, discounts on recreation programs, and free CPR training opportunities for eligible employees. Opportunities for continued involvement in seasonal and recreation programming make this an excellent role for those passionate about community service and event support. If you are looking to contribute to a welcoming community environment and enjoy working in dynamic social settings, joining Kentwood Parks and Recreation as an Event Bartender is an ideal opportunity to make a positive impact while advancing your skills in the hospitality and event management field.
