Meridian International currently seeks a polished and professional Event Banquet Captain to join its team in Washington D.C. This is a non-exempt position with an annual salary ranging from $62,000 to $65,000. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Event Operations, the selected candidate will play a crucial role in supporting high-end events and VIP clientele by delivering an elegant and memorable guest experience. This position requires someone with previous experience in luxury catering, fine dining, banquets, or upscale hospitality environments.

The Event Banquet Captain will be responsible for meticulous buffet setup, exceptional service delivery, and refined presentation of food and beverages. The role demands a creative eye for buffet styling and presentation, strong organizational skills, and the ability to adapt to changing event requirements efficiently. Candidates must exhibit a guest-focused demeanor at all times, professionalism, dependability, and punctuality. The position primarily operates Monday through Friday during day or evening shifts, adapted according to event schedules and volume. Meridian mandates residents from Maryland, Washington D.C., or Virginia for this role.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience in luxury catering, fine dining, banquets, or high-volume upscale events
  • Strong knowledge of buffet presentation, food station décor, and hospitality service etiquette
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts
  • Residency in Maryland, DC, or Virginia
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Cultural sensitivity and tact

  • Maturity, cultural sensitivity, and tact suitable for working with diverse individuals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams

Job Duties

  • Set up buffets, food stations, and beverage displays according to event specifications, diagrams and brand standards
  • Ensure all stations are attractively arranged with attention to visual design, décor, and guest flow
  • Monitor buffet and beverage levels and replenish items promptly to maintain a full and appealing presentation
  • Re-plate or enhance drop-off catering items to create stylish, appetizing, and polished displays
  • Provide warm, attentive, and professional service to all guests, including VIP attendees
  • Anticipate guest needs and respond quickly and courteously to requests
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe service environment throughout the event
