Job Description

The YMCA is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening community through various programs and initiatives that support youths, families, and individuals. With a mission to nurture the potential of every child, promote healthy living, and foster social responsibility, the YMCA has been a cornerstone in communities nationwide. The Walnut Creek Family YMCA, part of this extensive network, provides a welcoming and inclusive environment where members and staff alike work synergistically to create meaningful change in the communities they serve. The YMCA's strong commitment to character development, youth empowerment, and community engagement drives all its activities, making it a trusted name for personal and social growth.

The role being offered is a unique opportunity to join the YMCA as a Girls on the Run (GOTR) Program and Events Coordinator. This position is primarily responsible for the planning, promotion, and execution of fundraising, stewardship, and community engagement events for Girls on the Run of Central Iowa. It demands a dynamic, organized, and passionate individual who can diligently coordinate remote and non-local GOTR sites to maintain consistency, alignment, and quality across the council's footprint.

Beyond event management, the coordinator will oversee the quality and delivery of youth programs, ensuring each child feels valued, achieves personal growth, and finds a strong sense of belonging within the program. This role entails managing volunteers, including recruiting, training, and leading a dedicated team that reflects the core values of the YMCA and Girls on the Run. Successful candidates will be enthusiastic representatives at public events and programs, able to cultivate relationships with internal staff, external partners, and vendors alike.

The position is based at the Walnut Creek Family YMCA and offers a standard workweek with a flexible schedule that often requires evening, weekend, or additional hours to accommodate program activities and organizational representation. The salary range is from $19.00 to $21.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience.

As a Girls on the Run Program and Events Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in event timeline development, vendor and volunteer coordination, and the promotion of the GOTR program, ensuring that marketing materials and communications align with YMCA and GOTR brand standards. The role also involves budgeting responsibilities tied to the events, requiring careful attention to finance tracking to meet budget goals.

This position offers a highly collaborative work environment, requiring interaction with a variety of stakeholders and a commitment to high standards of program execution. Physical demands include moderate active duties both indoors and outdoors, reinforcing the need for flexibility, stamina, and adaptability. The YMCA's supportive culture ensures reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities to perform essential functions successfully.

Ultimately, this role is crucial in delivering programs that empower girls, foster community engagement, and support charitable events that sustain the YMCA's mission, making a tangible difference in Central Iowa communities. If you are passionate about youth development, event management, and community service, this role invites you to bring your talents to an organization that truly values making an impact every day.
