Job Description

The Tennessee Aquarium, recognized as the best aquarium in America for overall guest satisfaction, is a premier destination attracting over 750,000 visitors each year. Located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, this institution is more than just a place to explore marine life; it is a center for education, conservation, and immersive experiences that connect visitors with the aquatic world. The Aquarium campus features multiple buildings and exhibits that showcase diverse species and habitats, contributing to its reputation as a beloved community asset and tourist attraction. The Tennessee Aquarium emphasizes providing world-class experiences not only through its exhibits but also through exceptional guest service, community engagement, and hosting a variety of special events throughout the year.

The Tennessee Aquarium is currently seeking a dedicated Events Associate to join their Facility Rental Department. This part-time role primarily supports the execution of events, ensuring a seamless, enjoyable experience for guests and event attendees alike. The position is hourly, paying $16 per hour, and mainly involves evening and weekend shifts to accommodate the scheduling of events. Shifts may range from 1-2 events per month to 1-2 events per week based on the volume of contracted events. Employees are required to be available for at least one event per month to maintain their employment status.

As an Events Associate, your responsibilities will cover the full event lifecycle—setting up, supporting during, and breaking down event spaces with a high degree of attention to detail and guest service excellence. Key duties include arranging tables, chairs, linens, place settings, and decor according to specific event guidelines provided by the Manager on Duty. The role requires physical stamina and mobility, as navigating multiple elevators and floors is typical during setup while guests may still be touring the Aquarium. The Associate will also interact with caterers, contract labor, and guests, ensuring smooth collaboration and adherence to Aquarium standards and sustainability initiatives such as recycling. Strong communication, adaptability under pressure, and an enthusiastic and professional demeanor are essential qualities for the role. The Tennessee Aquarium values a positive work environment and teamwork, expecting the Events Associate to work closely with management and other staff to help events succeed.

This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a nationally recognized institution dedicated to education, conservation, and exceptional guest experiences. Working as an Events Associate allows you to contribute directly to the success of memorable events that showcase the Aquarium’s facilities while providing guests with outstanding hospitality. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy dynamic work environments, physical activity, and engaging with the public while supporting a worthy mission. Interested candidates should be prepared to handle detailed operational tasks and maintain professionalism in a vibrant setting where every event is an opportunity to create lasting impressions.
