The Dietary Services Team at Lowry Hills Care and Rehabilitation is essential in promoting the health and well-being of residents by delivering nutritious, high-quality meals prepared with care and attention to dietary needs. As a Cook within the Dietary Services Team, you will contribute directly to the dining experience of the residents, helping to create a comforting and enjoyable environment. Shifts are available from 5am to 1pm and 11am to 8pm, providing flexibility for candidates. The pay rate is competitive, ranging from $20.00 to $24.00 per hour based on experience. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of cooking experience in a large-scale food operation preferred
- One year experience in long term care preferred
- Ability to follow food safety and sanitation guidelines
- Capable of preparing diet-specific meals
- Able to operate kitchen equipment
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work flexible shifts
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency preferred
- Two years as cook in a large-scale cooking operation preferred
- One year’s work experience in long term care preferred
Job Duties
- Prepares meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes
- Refers to supervisor or dietitian the need for menu changes
- Reviews menus, resident census information, production guides and pre-prep sheets to determine type and quantities of food to be prepared
- Prepares food according to safe food handling guidelines per company policy and procedure and state and federal codes and regulations
- Assists with food ordering, storage and preparation as designated by the supervisor
- Prepares food in a timely manner to preserve food quality and serve meal on time
- Maintains standards for food preparation and quality of food service
- Uses nutritionally equivalent substitutes when required
- Follows standardized recipes
- Operates kitchen utensils and equipment such as blenders, mixers, food slicers, steamers, food processors, convection ovens, ranges and tilt skillets
- Bakes, roasts, broils, and steams food items appropriately
- Prepares consistency modified and diet foods
- Assists with special function meals
- Completes pre-preparation tasks such as washing, peeling and cutting vegetables and fruits
- Slices meat and measures or weighs for menu compliance and nutrition accuracy
- Prepares and serves food attractively using gravies, sauces and garnishes
- Tests and observes food by tasting for palatability
- Monitors and records food temperatures prior to meal service
- Makes and records menu changes under supervisor direction
- Uses proper hand washing techniques
- Thaws, packages and stores food correctly
- Uses gloves appropriately and changes when required
- Checks refrigerators and freezers for correct temperatures
- Follows cleaning schedules
- Cleans equipment and work areas after each use
- Sweeps and mops kitchen floors
- Takes trash to dumpster when assigned
- Washes pots and pans
- Assumes responsibility for meeting meal schedules
- Remains accountable to cook in absence of Dietary Manager
- Performs other duties as assigned
