The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retailer headquartered in Irving, Texas. Since its founding in 1973, Michaels has grown to become the premier destination for creative supplies and celebration products in North America. Operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with a strong online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca, Michaels caters to both hobbyists and professional artists alike. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. At Michaels, the mission is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration by offering an extensive range of quality products and services that inspire customers to unleash their artistic potential.
The Store Associate position at the DC-Silver Spring, MD location plays a vital role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable shopping experience for customers. As a Store Associate, your main responsibility is to provide friendly and efficient customer service by helping customers find the products they need, answering questions, and offering solutions tailored to their creative projects. You will ensure a smooth and positive checkout experience by managing cash register operations with accuracy and courtesy. Additionally, you will be actively involved in maintaining the store’s merchandising standards by assisting with product displays, restocking shelves, and organizing stock to guarantee the store remains attractive and well-stocked.
This role also involves participating in inventory-related tasks such as unloading deliveries from trucks, assisting with planogram setups, and performing stock optimization activities. You will encourage customer engagement by promoting the company’s rewards program and capturing sign-ups, as well as informing customers about the Voice of the Customer survey to gather valuable feedback. Customer outreach also extends to supporting omnichannel processes, including buy online, pick up in-store orders and shipments directly from the store.
Michaels fosters a work environment that values respect, positivity, and collaboration. You are expected to uphold the company’s standards by following operational policies and procedures, complying with relevant laws, and promoting the brand vision and values. Physical demands of the job include standing for extended periods, bending, lifting heavy items, and sometimes working outdoors when retrieving shopping baskets or unloading trucks. The store environment is mostly air-conditioned with some areas like warehouses possibly not climate-controlled. Work hours may involve early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Employment with Michaels offers competitive compensation with a total base pay range between $17.65 and $20.60 per hour for this position. The company also emphasizes team member well-being by providing extensive benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts. Michaels is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring reasonable accommodations are provided to qualified individuals with disabilities to perform their job and participate fully in the employment process. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer striving to create an environment where creativity, innovation, and community thrive together.
