As an institution, Boston Children's Hospital prioritizes safety, inclusiveness, and a supportive work environment for its diverse team of healthcare professionals and support staff. The hospital’s reputation extends beyond its medical expertise, highlighting the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients, families, and staff alike to ensure the highest standards of care and wellbeing.
The Environmental Services team at Boston Children’s Hospital plays a critical role in upholding these standards by maintaining cleanliness throughout the hospital’s facilities. This role is scheduled Monday through Friday from 3 PM to 11:30 PM, including every other weekend and holidays, which accommodates the hospital’s need to provide continuous care and safety. A $1,000 sign-on bonus is offered to new hires within the first six months, reflecting the hospital’s dedication to attracting and retaining qualified individuals.
Individuals hired for the environmental services position will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in various hospital areas. Duties include performing hard floor care such as dusting and damp mopping to maintain sanitation levels, providing carpet and furniture care through vacuuming and shampooing, and disposing of trash and recyclable materials following safety guidelines. These responsibilities support hospital operations by reducing risks of contamination and ensuring all spaces meet established standards for cleanliness and safety.
The role also involves cleaning restrooms, replenishing supplies, and maintaining horizontal and vertical surfaces including vents, light fixtures, windows, and doors. The employee will operate electric and battery-powered cleaning equipment, move furniture or equipment when needed, and handle regulated medical waste properly. The position requires interaction not only with cleaning tasks but also with patients, families, and hospital staff members, underscoring the importance of courteous communication and professionalism.
Boston Children's Hospital emphasizes the importance of attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately to maintain hospital safety and hygiene standards. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to contribute meaningfully to a healthcare environment while benefiting from a comprehensive benefits package. The benefits package includes flexible schedules, affordable health, vision, and dental insurance, child care and student loan subsidies, 403(b) retirement savings plan, pension, tuition reimbursement, and various discounts for employees.
Joining the Environmental Services team at Boston Children’s Hospital means becoming part of a dedicated workforce that values passion, teamwork, and integrity. Employees benefit from a supportive culture that recognizes their critical contributions to patient care indirectly by ensuring the hospital environment supports healing and safety. This is a vital role with impactful responsibilities, appropriate for individuals who value cleanliness and take pride in contributing to a large, respected institution’s mission to improve child health and welfare.
