Job Description
Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency, commonly known as Wayne Metro, is a dedicated social service organization committed to eliminating poverty and empowering people and communities to be strong, healthy, and thriving. With a vision of thriving communities where all people have hope and opportunities to realize their full potential, Wayne Metro operates over 70 programs that offer a wide array of services including educational, housing, and emergency assistance aimed at low to moderate income families. The agency is known for its professional staff who uphold values such as empathy, respect, excellent client service, confidentiality, punctuality, and regular attendance.
This internship opportunity at Wayne Metro presents a unique and enriching experience for individuals passionate about data, family services, and community engagement. The role focuses primarily on ERSEA - Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance - emphasizing hands-on learning and skill development in program operations, compliance, and data management within a supportive and collaborative environment. Interns will work closely with the ERSEA team to support the enrollment process, ensure accurate data maintenance, and assist with recruitment and attendance initiatives. A key aspect of the internship involves gaining exposure to the federal Head Start requirements, making it an excellent stepping stone for those interested in early childhood programs and family services.
The internship entails a diverse set of responsibilities split evenly between operational data management and community engagement. In the operational aspect, tasks include reviewing applications for completeness and eligibility, supporting data entry in ChildPlus software, tracking enrollment and waitlist statuses, updating attendance records, generating necessary reports, and conducting file reviews to ensure regulatory compliance. On the outreach side, interns help plan and coordinate recruitment events such as Preschool Round-Ups and community outreach initiatives. They also engage with community partners, collaborate with Family Advocates to bolster family engagement, assist in outreach strategy development to maintain a strong enrollment pipeline, and provide on-the-ground support during events.
Candidates suitable for this internship are currently pursuing relevant degrees like Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, Early Childhood Education, or related fields. They are detail-oriented, well-organized, communicative, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. Basic computer skills are essential, with experience in databases like ChildPlus considered a valuable advantage. Prior exposure to community outreach, data entry, or program support enhances an applicant's fit for this role. The physical demands are manageable, involving mostly sedentary work with occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, and occur within a professional office environment.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, passing a criminal background check and drug screening, and the ability to work a hybrid schedule. Successful interns must uphold Wayne Metro's high standards of professionalism, punctuality, dependability, and adherence to organizational policies. This internship offers a valuable pathway to gain practical experience in social service program management while contributing meaningfully to a mission-driven organization dedicated to fostering community empowerment and poverty alleviation.
