Job Description
The ER Front Desk Receptionist role is a critical position within a busy emergency room (ER) environment where exceptional customer service and efficiency are paramount. Our hiring establishment is a healthcare facility dedicated to providing urgent and emergency care to patients needing immediate medical attention. As a key part of a fast-paced ER, this role focuses on managing patient flow and interactions from the moment they arrive, ensuring a seamless check-in process that includes verifying insurance details and collecting necessary payments.
The organization is committed to delivering high-quality care through its diverse medical teams and cutting-edge technology. This emergency room prioritizes patient safety, timely service, and compassionate communication. The Front Desk Receptionist plays a vital role in supporting these goals by maintaining organized and professional front desk operations, which directly impact the overall patient experience.
The ER Front Desk Receptionist’s duties include greeting patients with professionalism and empathy upon their arrival, managing multi-line phone systems to schedule appointments and route calls appropriately, and efficiently processing walk-in patients. This role requires the individual to be adept at handling sensitive patient information, verifying insurance coverage accurately, and ensuring that all necessary paperwork is complete and properly scanned into the electronic medical record system, specifically eClinicalWorks. The receptionist is also responsible for collecting co-pays or outstanding payments, balancing the daily cash drawer, and maintaining a clean and inviting office lobby and front desk area.
Successful candidates will thrive in an environment where speed and accuracy are essential while managing high patient volumes and fluctuating workloads. The ability to multitask, adapt quickly to changing priorities, and communicate clearly with patients, healthcare providers, and office staff is essential. Regular attendance and punctuality are critical, reflecting the importance of reliability in this vital role. Previous experience with electronic health records (EMR), while preferred, is not mandatory, but strong computer literacy and keen attention to detail are required.
Working as an ER Front Desk Receptionist offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient care by ensuring administrative processes support clinical teams effectively. This full-time position is perfect for individuals who enjoy working in dynamic healthcare settings and possess strong interpersonal skills, a calm demeanor under pressure, and a dedication to excellent patient service.
