Job Description

Equity in the Arts (EIA) is a dynamic initiative committed to fostering cultural equity through a rich and diverse array of programming that includes art exhibitions, humanities lectures, music festivals, dance residencies, and community engagement events. Situated in South Bend, this initiative plays a pivotal role in enhancing the arts and humanities landscape by ensuring representation of underrepresented communities and promoting inclusiveness across cultural experiences. EIA is deeply invested in creating spaces where diverse narratives are not only celebrated but where cultural expression becomes a catalyst for community cohesion and enrichment. The initiative reflects a broader vision of South Bend as an emerging regional arts destination, facilitating access to cultural experiences that resonate with a wide spectrum of audiences.

The Equity in the Arts Intern position offers a valuable opportunity for college students passionate about arts, culture, and community engagement to gain hands-on experience in the practical aspects of event management, project management, cultural programming, and public engagement. The intern will be instrumental in supporting the delivery of various programs and events designed to reflect EIA's mission of cultural equity. Key programming includes high-profile events such as the South Bend High School Music Festival, Dance Festival, Dia de los Muertos celebrations, Manuscripts in May, and Movies at the Morris, among others. The internship promises an immersive experience for individuals eager to contribute meaningfully to the arts sector while building essential skills that will benefit their career trajectory.

Throughout the internship, the intern will engage in a broad spectrum of responsibilities including assisting with event setup, coordination, and breakdown to ensure seamless execution. The role also involves supporting the development of innovative arts-related events to enrich the local community and create inclusive spaces that welcome diverse audiences and artists. Community outreach is a significant component, with tasks involving engagement with local schools, community groups, and cultural organizations to expand the reach and impact of EIA programs.

Administrative support forms a vital part of the internship, requiring maintenance of event schedules, artist databases, and promotional materials. The intern will also assist with social media management, website updates, and marketing efforts aimed at boosting event visibility. Beyond operational duties, the intern will have the opportunity to contribute ideas towards program development initiatives that align with cultural equity goals and assist with grant-related activities and reporting, gaining insight into the funding landscape of arts programming.

This internship is designed with a flexible schedule in mind to accommodate the dynamic timing of arts events, including evening and weekend commitments. It serves as a foundation for developing a nuanced understanding of how cultural equity can shape vibrant, inclusive communities. Participants will emerge with enhanced organizational and communication skills, a strong grasp of collaborative work environments, and a deep appreciation for the role of arts in societal enrichment. The Equity in the Arts Intern role is a gateway to building a meaningful career in arts administration, nonprofit management, cultural programming, and community engagement within vibrant arts communities like South Bend.
