The Equipment Maintenance Technician role at Bloom Energy is a vital position within the manufacturing operation, focused on maintaining and repairing the complex machinery used in fuel cell stack manufacturing. This position is based in Fremont, CA, and requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week. The shift is scheduled for nights, from 6 pm to 6 am, Thursday through Saturday, including every alternating Wednesday. The role reports directly to the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.

As an Equipment Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing machinery, conducting preventive maintenance, performing machine installations or modifications, and supporting various equipment testing activities. You will play a key role in ensuring operational efficiency and minimizing equipment downtime by promptly resolving issues and implementing engineering upgrades as necessary. The role demands strong mechanical and electrical skills, experience with automation and PLCs, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

This position requires physical stamina and dexterity, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, maneuver in tight spaces, and maintain various body postures for extended periods during repairs and maintenance tasks. The candidate must also be proficient in using computers and software tools such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and CMMS software for tracking maintenance activities and inventory management.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of three years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a broad knowledge of mechanical systems including pneumatics, vacuum systems, motor alignment, and hoists, as well as electrical systems up to 480VAC including VFDs and motor/encoder systems. Experience with high-temperature systems, PLC automation, and welding is highly valued. Additionally, skills in precision measurement and adjustment, including laser measurements and maintenance of rolling hearth kilns, are advantages.

Outstanding communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision are essential. The role demands strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively collaborate within multidisciplinary teams. Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years manufacturing experience
  • Proficient in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Ability to work night shifts (6pm - 6am) Thursday through Saturday including alternating Wednesdays
  • Ability to use PC and maintenance software
  • Ability to work onsite full-time in Fremont, CA
  • Strong communication skills
  • Physically able to perform maintenance tasks involving standing, crouching, kneeling, and bending

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Well-rounded knowledge of mechanical systems such as pneumatics, vacuum systems, motor alignment, hoists
  • Experience with electrical systems up to 480VAC, including VFDs and motor/encoder systems
  • Experience with high-temperature systems up to 1200C
  • PLC and automation experience
  • Welding experience (MIG, TIG, Arc) is a plus
  • Precision measurement and adjustment skills including laser measurements
  • Experience with rolling hearth kilns maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Experience repairing machinery in a high volume manufacturing atmosphere
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal, and active listening
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Word and Excel
  • PowerPoint proficiency is a plus
  • Highly motivated self-starter capable of self-management with minimal oversight
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

Job Duties

  • Troubleshoot and repair all downed machines in Stack Manufacturing
  • Perform machine installations or modifications as per instructed
  • Execute preventive maintenance schedules
  • Review spares inventory and inform spares team when spare parts are used
  • Evaluate equipment and create maintenance procedures and error logs
  • Suggest improvements for tool set
  • Implement engineering upgrades to machines
  • Support equipment testing group
  • Ensure proper LOTO compliance
  • Lift up to 50lbs as needed
  • Maneuver into tight places or on the ground to perform repairs
  • Stand, crouch, kneel, bend over or be in out of normal positions for extended periods to perform repairs
  • Stand or walk for extended periods to perform maintenance duties
  • Use PC and programs such as Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and CMMS software
