Proper Fare is an innovative cafe, grocer, and grab-and-go establishment located in the South Station Tower in Boston. We are currently seeking passionate baristas to join our opening team at the South Station Tower. This role focuses on delivering high-quality coffee and espresso beverages, specialty drinks, and cafe items that meet Episcope recipe standards. The ideal candidate will be energetic, detail-oriented, and committed to providing a friendly, efficient, and consistent service experience. Baristas at Proper Fare take pride in their craft, maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for every guest.

This position requires mastery in preparing coffee beverages that satisfy both quality and presentation benchmarks, while also embodying the culture, philosophy, and core values of Episcope. Working in a guest-first, fast-paced environment, the barista will manage opening and closing duties, restock supplies, and maintain cleanliness throughout each shift. Teamwork, reliability, and a positive attitude are essential, as is the ability to multitask and work well under pressure.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of barista experience
  • Ability to work early morning shifts
  • Exceptional grooming and hygiene
  • Knowledge of espresso and coffee beverage preparation
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to handle cash and POS systems
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure

Job Qualifications

  • Must have exceptional grooming habits
  • Comfortable working early morning hours
  • At least one year of past barista experience
  • Have working knowledge of traditional espresso beverages
  • Possess basic math skills and can handle money and operate a point of sales system
  • Basic knowledge of commercial espresso machines and coffee makers
  • Works quickly and efficiently
  • Works well both independently and as a team member
  • Responsible and reliable
  • Outgoing friendly personality
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Excellent multi-tasking and attention to detail
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
  • Able to lift 50 lbs

Job Duties

  • Prepare and serve coffee, espresso beverages, specialty drinks, and food items according to store recipes and company quality standards
  • Possess full knowledge of menu and vendors that we feature
  • Uphold product quality and presentation standards
  • Learn our guests and practice recognition of our regular guests and VIPs
  • Provide friendly, attentive, and professional customer service at all times
  • Accurately take customer orders, process payments, and handle cash and gift cards
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, equipment, and guest areas throughout each shift
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene procedures in compliance with company standards
  • Restock ingredients, supplies, and retail items as needed using good judgement based on business levels
  • Communicate effectively with team members
  • Assist with opening, mid, and closing duties, including setup, breakdown, and cleaning tasks
  • Support team goals by maintaining punctuality, reliability, and a positive attitude
  • Participate in a culture of innovation by contributing ideas for house and seasonal coffee and tea beverages
  • Adhere to all Episcope company policies, procedures, and service standards
