Job Description
Advocate Health is the third-largest nonprofit, integrated health system in the United States, formed through the combination of Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health. It operates under several well-known names including Advocate Health Care in Illinois, Atrium Health in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Alabama, and Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Advocate Health serves nearly 6 million patients and is a national leader in clinical innovation, health outcomes, consumer experience, and value-based care. The organization is actively involved in hundreds of clinical trials and research studies, with Wake Forest University School of Medicine acting as the academic core of the enterprise. Advocate Health is nationally recognized for its expertise in specialty areas such as cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, pediatrics, rehabilitation, organ transplants, burn treatments, and musculoskeletal programs. With a workforce of 155,000 teammates spanning 69 hospitals and over 1,000 care locations, the health system is a significant contributor to medical education, hosting one of the largest graduate medical education programs in the nation with over 2,000 residents and fellows across more than 200 programs. Committed to equity, it provides over $6 billion in annual community benefits to support accessible healthcare for all populations.
The Environmental Services Technician position at Atrium Health University City, part of the robust Advocate Health system, plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment within the medical facility. This full-time role offers a competitive starting pay of $18.85 per hour, with eligibility for benefits such as the Prepaid College Tuition Assistance program, providing up to $5,250 annually. Additional benefits include educational opportunities like earning a high school diploma or ESL classes at no cost through an online high school platform, wellness incentives earning up to $1,350, paid parental leaves, comprehensive health insurance options including copay or HSA eligible plans, and retirement contributions of up to 7% from the employer.
The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for thorough cleaning of various areas in the facility, including dusting and sanitizing furniture and fixtures, washing windows and walls, sweeping, scrubbing, refinishing floors, vacuuming carpets, restocking restrooms, replacing light bulbs, and reporting any needed repairs. The role requires the use of ladders for certain tasks and involves handling cleaning chemicals and disinfectants safely. Waste removal duties include collecting soiled linens, emptying trash and sharps containers, transporting hazardous waste to compactors, recycling materials, and emptying cigarette receptacles in designated smoking areas.
The technician ensures that equipment is clean and functional, reporting any equipment failures to maintenance. Maintaining a safe work environment by following infection control guidelines and departmental standards is critical. The position demands the ability to meet time schedules consistently and participation in mandatory training and safety programs. The work environment can be fast-paced and stressful, with exposure to contaminated, isolation, construction, and renovation areas, and occasionally extreme temperatures and unpleasant odors. The role also involves interaction with patients experiencing various physical and mental health challenges.
Advocate Health emphasizes a supportive working environment with comprehensive benefits and career development programs. The pay range is $18.85 to $28.30 per hour, reflecting factors such as qualifications, experience, and training. The organization offers incentive pay, premium pay for shifts, and opportunities for annual raises based on performance. Benefits include paid time off, health, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, defined contribution retirement plans with employer match, and educational assistance. Advocate Health welcomes candidates who are ready to contribute to a team dedicated to quality healthcare support and environmental safety within their facilities.
