The role of Environmental Services Technician I (Housekeeper) at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA, is a full-time position focused on maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment during the night shift from 11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., working every other weekend. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the hospital's environments, including patient rooms, hallways, and common areas, meet the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Key responsibilities include performing routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, and polishing surfaces to maintain sanitation. The technician is also responsible for the safe handling and proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, adherence to established safety protocols, and regulatory standards related to waste collection, handling, and disposal.

Additionally, the Environmental Services Technician responds promptly to spills, urgent cleaning needs, and service requests to provide a safe and welcoming environment for patients, their families, and hospital staff. Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Preferred 1 year of housekeeping or environmental services experience
  • Preferred experience in medical environment cleaning
  • Preferred customer service experience
  • Ability to follow safety and infection prevention protocols
  • Ability to work night shifts including every other weekend
  • Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate with team members

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Preferred experience of 1 year in housekeeping or environmental services department in lieu of high school education
  • Preferred experience in housekeeping or cleaning in a medical environment
  • Preferred customer service experience
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and infection prevention guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills

Job Duties
