The Environmental Services Technician I position at Akron Children's Hospital involves essential responsibilities focused on the daily cleaning and sanitization of patient rooms and ancillary areas within the hospital. This full-time, onsite role operates mainly overnight hours from 11:00 pm to 7:30 am, including rotating weekends and holidays, ensuring cleanliness and sanitation standards are met around the clock. The technician is tasked with supplying patient rooms with necessary paper products and performing discharge room cleaning using accepted procedures and techniques to uphold the hospital's high standards of hygiene.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
2 years of relevant experience preferred
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and efficiently
Annual respiratory mask fitting and recertification training mandatory
Ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools
Knowledge of appropriate cleaning solutions, chemicals, and supplies including safety protocols
Understanding of infection control practices and procedures
Capacity to maintain high quality cleaning standards and attention to detail
Availability to work overnight shifts including rotating weekends and holidays
Must be able to work onsite at the hospital

Job Qualifications

Proficiency in operating and maintaining cleaning equipment and tools commonly used in environmental services
Knowledge of appropriate cleaning solutions, chemicals, and supplies including correct usage and safety protocols
Familiarity with cleaning techniques for various surfaces and areas ensuring effective removal of dirt, stains, and pathogens
Ability to perform specialized cleaning tasks such as terminal cleaning including cleaning walls, lights, ceilings, and utilizing UV light technology

Job Duties

Responsible for daily cleaning of patient rooms, supplying rooms with paper products, and discharge room cleaning utilizing accepted practices and procedures
Responsible for daily cleaning of support service areas as assigned
Demonstrates knowledge and efficient use of cleaning techniques, solutions, equipment, and tools
Uses appropriate chemicals, supplies, and tools for each task
Provides preventative cleaning service for occupied patient areas according to the Ten Step Interactive Cleaning and High-Profile Cleaning Procedures
Performs discharge cleaning of patient areas according to the Interactive Discharge Procedure
Performs terminal cleaning of walls, lights, and ceilings, including the use of UV light technology
Adheres to all hospital and department standards for patient and guest relations
Promotes a positive image of Akron Children's Hospital
Maintains high standards, works at a steady pace, and achieves high QA scores
Fill in to support other Support Services areas as needed to ensure operational efficiency
Follows written and verbal instructions accurately and completes other duties as assigned
