The Environmental Services Technician I position at Akron Children's Hospital is a full-time, onsite role essential to maintaining the hospital's rigorous cleanliness standards. The work schedule for this position typically runs from 3:15 pm to 11:45 pm and includes rotating weekends and holidays. In this role, the technician is responsible for daily cleaning of patient rooms, supporting service areas, and ensuring that discharge cleaning procedures meet or exceed hospital standards. This includes the use of approved cleaning techniques, chemicals, and equipment, as well as specialized terminal cleaning involving areas such as walls, ceilings, and lights using advanced technologies like UV light. Environmental Services Technicians are also tasked with supplying patient rooms with necessary paper products and contributing positively to patient and guest relations by upholding a courteous and professional image.
This position requires close adherence to established safety protocols and hospital standards while maintaining high-quality assurance scores through diligent work and attention to detail. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- 2 years of relevant experience preferred
- Ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, solutions, and safety protocols
- Ability to perform specialized and terminal cleaning tasks
- Understanding of infection control procedures
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to follow instructions accurately
- Willingness to work rotating weekends and holidays
- Must work onsite full-time
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Responsible for the daily cleaning of patient rooms, supplying rooms with paper products, and discharge room cleaning utilizing accepted practices and procedures
- Responsible for daily cleaning of support service areas as assigned
- Demonstrates knowledge and efficient use of cleaning techniques, solutions, equipment, and tools
- Uses appropriate chemicals, supplies, and tools for each task
- Provides preventative cleaning service for occupied patient areas according to the Ten Step Interactive Cleaning and High-Profile Cleaning Procedures
- Performs discharge cleaning of patient areas according to the Interactive Discharge Procedure
- Performs terminal cleaning of walls, lights, and ceilings, including the use of UV light technology
- Adheres to all hospital and department standards for patient and guest relations
- Promotes a positive image of Akron Children's Hospital
- Maintains high standards, works at a steady pace, and achieves high QA scores
- Fill in to support other Support Services areas as needed to ensure operational efficiency
- Follows written and verbal instructions accurately and completes other duties as assigned
