This job opportunity is for the position of Environmental Services Technician (Housekeeping Aid) at the VA Medical Center. This full-time role involves performing janitorial and custodial services essential to maintaining a safe, clean, and hygienic environment within the medical facility. The job is adjudicated under the U.S. Federal Wage System at the WG-2 grade level with a salary range of $16.37 to $19.02 per hour. The work schedule consists of rotating shifts including Monday through Sunday coverage with shifts from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm, as well as holiday shifts. The primary responsibilities of this role include extensive floor maintenance, cleaning, and sanitizing patient areas, restrooms, administrative offices, and other parts of the medical facility. The Environmental Services Technician utilizes both manual and industrial-grade powered cleaning equipment and is expected to perform tasks such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, buffing, vacuuming carpets, washing windows and walls, polishing furniture, and disinfecting surfaces. The incumbent also handles waste management including disposal of regulated medical waste, replenishing supplies, and managing textile distribution such as bed linens and uniforms.

Attention to detail, physical stamina, and safety consciousness are critical as the role demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, and operating cleaning machines that may weigh over 50 pounds. This position requires dexterity and coordination and compliance with health and safety protocols, including infectious control standards for cleaning in patient care areas. The role also involves occasional maintenance and minor repairs of cleaning equipment.

Moreover, the technician will work collaboratively with other staff, including guidance and oversight of a Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) worker. The Environmental Services Technician plays an essential role in supporting the hospital’s infection control programs by cleaning reusable medical equipment and ensuring that environmental cleanliness standards meet federal and VA guidelines.
