Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- experience in custodial work, preferably in hospital settings
- physical ability to maneuver in and around worksite
- ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and stoop for extended periods
- capability to lift up to 35 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally
- ability to push or pull equipment weighing up to 70 pounds
- communication skills to interact effectively with staff and security
- ability to read and follow safety guidelines and chemical instructions
Job Qualifications
- Experience in custodial work in a hospital setting preferred
- ability to learn methods of cleaning and caring for hospital facilities
- ability to read and follow written instructions on labels for proper and safe use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment
- ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions from clients, customers, and staff
- human relations skills to build effective working relationships with staff, customers, and others
- flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities
Job Duties
- Cleans, dusts, and polishes cabinets, furniture, lockers, and woodwork following safety and infection control procedures
- cleans stairwells, hallways, restrooms, offices, and cells, including the removal of mattresses and trash
- cleans wall surfaces, ceilings, baseboards, floors, doors, venetian blinds, ledges, vents, toilets, metal fixtures, shelves, furniture, privacy stalls, windows, and light fixtures
- empties and cleans waste receptacles, vacuums floors, assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment as needed
- disinfects and sanitizes areas, stocks and refills bathroom dispensers with paper, sanitary, and soap products
- selects proper cleaning materials and supplies to complete daily tasks
- reads, interprets, and follows material safety data sheets and chemical/cleaning product directions for use and safety precautions
- responsible for scheduled pickups of trash and biohazard waste bins for the facility
- works varying shifts and schedules in multiple hospital settings, including overtime and floating as required
- maintains storage closet
- responds to environmental emergencies and requests for assistance
- communicates with guards and staff
- performs other duties and special projects as assigned
