Job Description
The hiring establishment is a Surgical Center dedicated to providing high-quality patient care and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient clinical environment. This facility upholds stringent hygiene and infection control standards crucial in any medical setting, particularly within areas such as operating rooms, patient rooms, nursing units, and other commonly used spaces. As a professional healthcare environment, the Surgical Center aims to protect the rights, dignity, and confidentiality of patients while fostering a collaborative and respectful workplace for staff and healthcare providers. The center values professionalism and continuous development, requiring all team members to participate actively in trainings, emergency drills, and adhere strictly to established policies and procedures to ensure safety and quality care.
The role of the Environmental Service Technician is vital within this context, as the position directly supports infection control and overall patient safety through thorough and routine cleaning of clinical and administrative areas throughout the Surgical Center. Reporting to the Operating Room Manager, the Environmental Service Technician will play an essential role in maintaining cleanliness standards across patient rooms, nursing units, offices, waiting areas, lounges, restrooms, corridors, and lobbies. This full-time role demands physical endurance and capability, as it involves frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and the handling of cleaning chemicals and exposure to anesthesia gases. The technician must also be mindful of and able to manage the risks associated with exposure to communicable diseases and toxic substances common in clinical settings.
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities but does require a high level of personal accountability and professionalism. Environmental Service Technicians are expected to prioritize tasks efficiently, complete duties in a timely manner, and demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Maintaining quality control and adhering to safety standards are crucial performance criteria. Knowledge of safety hazards, calmness in emergencies, and ongoing professional development through training and educational programs are integral to success in this role.
Candidates are expected to have at least a high school diploma or GED, with one year of experience in a hospital or medical office environment being preferred. The Surgical Center supports continuous learning and encourages professional affiliations that enhance knowledge and skills relevant to the position. This commitment to professional growth ensures that the Environmental Service Technician remains updated on best practices in healthcare cleaning and infection control, contributing to superior care outcomes and patient satisfaction. Overall, the Environmental Service Technician is a foundational member of the healthcare team, ensuring a clean and safe environment that supports the Surgical Center’s mission to provide excellent medical services in a safe and respectful setting.
