Job Description
Cleveland Clinic is a leading healthcare organization renowned globally for its commitment to providing exceptional patient care and innovative medical services. Founded more than a century ago, the Cleveland Clinic has grown into a comprehensive health system offering advanced facilities and highly skilled medical professionals dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of the communities it serves. The institution prides itself on a patient-first philosophy, where compassionate care, safety, and state-of-the-art technology come together to deliver outstanding healthcare outcomes. With numerous specialty centers, teaching hospitals, and research institutes, Cleveland Clinic continuously pushes the boundaries of medical science and patient treatment. Its Environmental Services Department is a vital part of this ecosystem, ensuring that all patient and public areas remain sanitary, safe, and welcoming environments for patients, families, and staff.
Joining the Cleveland Clinic as an Environmental Services caregiver means becoming part of a highly respected team that plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene standards essential for infection control and patient safety. This position focuses on creating and preserving a safe and sanitary environment across multiple settings, including inpatient units, discharge and surgical areas, ancillary spaces, exam rooms, offices, waiting areas, public restrooms, and other outpatient non-surgical locations as assigned. Environmental Services caregivers undertake routine cleaning duties such as dust mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, floor buffing, gum removal, and waste disposal, all while adhering strictly to hospital policies on patient isolation and safety protocols.
Employees in this role benefit from flexible shift options, including days, afternoons/evenings, evenings/nights, and late evenings, helping accommodate varying schedules and lifestyles. The position requires commitment to weekend shifts every other weekend and involves working in dynamic, fast-paced environments where attention to detail and the ability to follow directions with minimal supervision are critical. No prior work experience is necessary, making this role accessible for individuals seeking to enter healthcare environmental services. It serves as a foundation for career growth within Environmental Services, offering pathways to supervisory and managerial roles.
The hourly pay range for this role is between $16.50 and $20.25, with the actual compensation reflecting various factors such as work history, skills, and education. This does not include additional pay practices like shift differentials or overtime or the comprehensive benefits package that Cleveland Clinic offers, which features healthcare, dental, vision, and retirement savings benefits. The role also demands a physical capacity for continuous walking and standing, regular use of cleaning agents and chemicals, and the ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting, bending, and crouching. Successful candidates will be prepared to utilize personal protective equipment and comply fully with all safety standards to maintain a healthy working and healing environment.
Overall, becoming an Environmental Services caregiver at Cleveland Clinic means contributing meaningfully to a world-class healthcare system's day-to-day operations by ensuring that patients and staff operate in clean, safe surroundings. This critical role highlights the importance of environmental hygiene in healthcare effectiveness and offers rewarding career growth opportunities within a respected institution devoted to excellence and compassion in healthcare.
