Job Description

The Biloxi VA Medical Center, located in Biloxi, Mississippi, operates within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, dedicated to providing healthcare services to veterans and their families. As a crucial component of the federal healthcare system, the Medical Center focuses on delivering high-quality, compassionate care while maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for patients and staff. The Environmental Management Services Division plays an essential role in this effort by ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the entire facility. The division's mission supports the overall healthcare experience of veterans by providing a well-maintained, sterile, and welcoming environment, crucial for patient recovery and comfort.

The role of the Housekeeping Aid (HKA) within the Environmental Services (EVS) team is fundamental to the Medical Center's operations. Reporting directly to the Housekeeping Supervisor or a designee, the HKA-EVS Technician carries out a broad range of custodial and janitorial duties designed to uphold the highest standards of cleanliness and safety throughout the Medical Center. This is a permanent, full-time position that requires dedication, attention to detail, and a commitment to serving veterans. Hours include various shifts to maintain 24/7 coverage, including weekends and holidays, ensuring that patient areas and surrounding spaces are consistently clean and safe.

As a HKA-EVS Technician, you will be part of a workforce that includes many veterans, reflecting the shared commitment to service and excellence. The job responsibilities encompass cleaning wards, patient rooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, and other areas within the facility. You will be tasked with sweeping, mopping, scrubbing floors using machines, vacuuming carpets and upholstered furniture, emptying waste baskets, cleaning windows and light fixtures, washing walls and ceilings, and replenishing bathroom supplies. In addition, you will often need to move furniture and operate powered cleaning equipment weighing over 50 pounds, which requires physical stamina and dexterity.

This position not only demands physical endurance, including continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing, but also keen visual acuity to identify dirt and ensure thorough cleaning. Your work directly impacts the health outcomes of veterans by preventing contamination and creating a hygienic environment conducive to healing. The role provides an opportunity to work in a team-oriented setting within a highly impactful federal agency, offering stability, competitive pay (ranging from $19.09 to $22.29 per hour), and a comprehensive benefits package.

Beyond the scope of daily cleaning duties, this role requires adherence to federal employment standards, including U.S. citizenship or eligible non-citizen status, passing security and background checks, and compliance with vaccination and safety protocols. The Biloxi VA Medical Center is dedicated to equitable hiring practices, including priority consideration for eligible federal employees affected by workforce reductions. The position offers no supervisory duties but is a vital part of the custodial workforce essential to the overall healthcare mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
