UMB currently has multiple openings for the position of Environmental Services Custodial Technician I, specifically for the evening shift, within the Department of Facilities Operations. This role is critical in maintaining cleanliness, safety, and overall attractive conditions throughout university buildings. The Department of Facilities Operations plays a vital role in ensuring that all campus infrastructure is well-managed and maintained to create a positive environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. The position falls under the Environmental Services Custodial Technician series and is functionally equivalent to the Housekeeper job, handling similar duties.
The Environmental Services Custodial Technician I is responsible for cleaning assigned areas, including washing furnishings, windows, fixtures, equipment, and floors, as well as vacuuming, dusting, polishing, and sanitizing, particularly in bathroom areas. The role demands physical activity such as moving furniture and equipment when necessary and managing refuse transport and disposal. Technicians must also inspect assigned areas regularly to identify any repair needs or equipment relocation and coordinate requests accordingly. The role involves utilizing standard cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, and mops.
This full-time, non-exempt regular position offers a competitive salary starting at $38,000 per year ($18.22 per hour), with a 2.5% salary adjustment upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period. Job Duties
- Cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings, windows, tile, fixtures, equipment and floors
- Vacuums, dusts and polishes specified areas and/or furnishings
- Sanitizes and disinfects bathroom areas
- Gathers and transports refuse from assigned areas to appropriate disposal location
- Inspects physical condition of assigned areas
- submits requests to appropriate personnel regarding repairs, replacements, furnishings and relocation of equipment
- Requests cleaning materials and supplies from designated areas
- mixes cleaning solutions according to specifications
- loads and transports service cart with required materials and supplies to designated work areas
- Operates standard cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, and mops
