The role of Environmental Services staff at Jewish Senior Services is critical in upholding the cleanliness and safety standards necessary to create a pleasant and orderly home for residents, staff, and visitors. This position operates on a per diem basis and involves performing various cleaning and maintenance duties during assigned shifts. Reporting to the Director of Facility Services or Environmental Services supervisors, the Environmental Services staff play a vital part in ensuring that all areas, from resident rooms to common spaces, meet stringent sanitation guidelines.
The responsibilities of this role include performing routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, disinfecting surfaces, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming, as well as more specialized duties like cleaning resident rooms following detailed procedures, handling infectious waste, and maintaining utility rooms and storage areas. Employees in this position must be proficient with cleaning equipment and follow established protocols to maintain a hygienic environment that supports the health of the elderly population.
In addition to daily cleaning duties, Environmental Services staff respond promptly to requests related to special functions, moving items, or other needs that arise to ensure that the quality of the environment is consistently maintained. They also participate in regular safety and emergency procedures training, underlining the organization’s commitment to safety and preparedness.

Job Duties
- Communicates issues, concerns, and suggests ideas for improving procedures or workflow
- Completes daily, weekly, or monthly tasks in a timely manner and with a high degree of quality
- Utilizes and cares for all equipment and follows established cleaning procedures to ensure a clean, organized, and pleasant home for residents, staff, and visitors
- Responds to requests for service concerning special functions, moving items, cleaning, or other needs required by residents, staff or visitors to maintain the quality environment
- Performs duties including dusting, disinfecting surfaces, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, removing trash, infectious waste, and soiled linen
- Cleans resident rooms following 7-step procedures, isolation, discharge, or complete room cleaning
- Cleans cubicle curtains, vents, walls, flat surfaces, windows, wheelchairs, cleaning equipment, shower rooms, performs floor stripping, refinishing, or restoration
- Maintains utility rooms, storage areas, and closets in a neat, clean, and orderly manner
- Attends to special cleaning areas such as elevators, public bathrooms, meeting rooms, or areas around dumpsters
- Participates in monthly, quarterly, or annual meetings and follows fire, safety, and emergency procedures
- Performs other related duties as assigned
