Job Description

Colorado State University (CSU) Veterinary Health System (VHS) is a premier institution dedicated to providing expert veterinary services, education, and groundbreaking research. The system is deeply integrated with the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, providing a collaborative environment where innovation and knowledge sharing are prioritized. The VHS operates teaching hospitals and clinical spaces such as the Animal Cancer Center, where advanced veterinary care and education occur simultaneously. Every member of the team, from veterinary professionals to support staff, contributes to the mission of advancing animal health through compassionate care and scientific excellence.

This position is for a dedicated Custodian who will perform daily cleaning and disinfection of clinical and public areas within the VHS teaching hospitals and the Animal Cancer Center. Responsibilities include cleaning examination rooms, restrooms, surgical procedure rooms, and treatment pits. The role emphasizes maintaining strict sanitary and disease prevention protocols to support a safe, hygienic environment essential for veterinary care. Beyond daily upkeep, this position involves annual deep cleaning, floor maintenance including scrubbing, buffing, stripping, and waxing, as well as managing laundry operations for linens and materials used throughout the hospital spaces. The Custodian is considered an essential worker, required to be available to work holidays, evenings, weekends, and respond promptly to perform emergency or essential services without delay or interruption. This commitment ensures the ongoing health, safety, and welfare of clients, animals, and staff within these critical care environments.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in commercial cleaning environments, with a preference for those familiar with medical or veterinary settings. Competency in operating various custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, shampoo machines, and wet/dry vacuums is highly valued. Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and products is important to effectively maintain diverse clinical and animal care spaces. CSU offers a salary range for this role between $38,000 and $40,000 annually, reflecting the vital role custodians play within the health system. This full-time position provides an opportunity to join a supportive and dynamic community, making a tangible difference in animal health and welfare while contributing to a respected educational institution.

Colorado State University is committed to inclusive hiring practices and offers a robust benefits package, collaborative atmosphere, and a focus on work-life balance, allowing employees to thrive and grow professionally. Candidates are encouraged to submit a cover letter and resume that align with the required and preferred qualifications. CSU values the safety and well-being of its community, conducting thorough background checks for finalist candidates as part of its commitment to a secure workplace. The university also strictly adheres to equal employment opportunity laws and policies, fostering a diverse and respectful environment for all employees.
