Job Description

Mercy Medical Center is a healthcare institution dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive care to its community. Known for its commitment to the Spirit of Mercy, the center upholds a set of core values centered on dignity, respect, and person-centered care, ensuring that every individual—the person served, their families, and the staff—receives the highest standard of service. This institution operates with a deep sense of responsibility towards maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment, vital for the health and wellbeing of patients and visitors.

This role is for a full-time Environmental Services (E.S.) team member at Mercy Medical Center. This position involves a rotating shift schedule, emphasizing the need for a flexible and dedicated professional who is passionate about cleanliness and facility maintenance. The key purpose of this position is to perform a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties that ensure both the internal and external premises of the facility are safe, sanitary, and aesthetically pleasing. The Environmental Services team is essential in the hospital's operations, contributing to infection control, public health safety, and overall comfort within the facility.

The person hired into this role will engage in daily interactions with the Lead Environmental Services Worker, other cleaning service personnel, maintenance staff, and the broader hospital community including patients, guests, and staff. These interactions foster a collaborative atmosphere where everyone strives to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.

Core responsibilities include cleaning assigned internal areas such as public spaces, hallways, residential program areas, and specific zones like dental clinics. The candidate will also maintain the facility's external premises, including entrances, parking lot areas, and grounds. They will undertake tasks like stripping and waxing floors, vacuuming and wet-vacuuming carpets, dusting, removing trash, washing walls and ceilings, and maintaining a clean and aseptic environment throughout the House of Mercy.

Inventory management is another critical component of this role, where the individual will regularly check supply stock levels and generate purchase orders as needed to ensure uninterrupted service delivery. Additionally, the role encompasses reporting facility maintenance needs and assisting with painting, minor repairs, and preparation of resident rooms for admission.

The Environmental Services team member is expected to work proactively, identifying soiled areas without prompting and addressing unscheduled cleaning tasks as they arise. They contribute to safety by participating in safety drills and maintaining up-to-date safety data sheets for cleaning chemicals, aligning with the center's compliance with occupational safety regulations.

Physical demands of this position include medium work requiring the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and to stand or walk for extended periods. The role calls for a combination of agility and strength, including stooping, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs. The individual must also be comfortable working in variable environmental conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and occasional wet surfaces.

Mercy Medical Center prioritizes inclusivity and equal employment opportunity. It values diversity, recognizing the strength that comes from different perspectives and life experiences. Employees are expected to uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and the organization's mission centered on respect and compassion for all.
