Job Description
Douglas County Health Center is a respected long-term care facility dedicated to providing quality healthcare and support services to residents in the Douglas County area. Known for its commitment to fostering a safe, clean, and supportive environment, the Health Center plays a vital role in community health management by offering comprehensive care and fostering patient rehabilitation and comfort. The center values professionalism, respect, and cooperation among its staff and works continuously to maintain a facility that is conducive to optimal health and wellbeing for both residents and employees.
This Housekeeping position reports directly to the Housekeeping Manager or an assigned designee and involves performing a broad spectrum of cleaning and laundry-related duties essential to maintaining the hygienic and sanitary standards required in a healthcare environment. The role is integral to supporting the facility’s mission by ensuring that all common areas, patient rooms, and equipment are clean, sanitized, and orderly. As a member of the Douglas County Health Center team, the incumbent is expected to work efficiently under established safety protocols concerning biohazards, chemical exposure, and handling of laundry as well as waste materials.
The role includes responsibilities such as dusting, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, trash removal, and laundry processing, all executed with adherence to proper dilution and cleaning agent usage instructions. The position requires flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays, as well as occasional overtime and emergency call-ins. Given the healthcare setting, the candidate should be prepared to respond promptly to emergency codes and assist in maintaining a safe space for residents and employees alike.
This is a physically demanding role, involving frequent walking, standing, bending, and occasional lifting of items up to 50 pounds. Candidates must possess good sensory abilities including vision and hearing, and the manual dexterity necessary to operate power cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, and buffers. Beyond routine cleaning, the role may involve arranging furniture, replenishing housekeeping supplies, and participating in quality assurance processes to improve cleaning operations continually.
The Housekeeping role at Douglas County Health Center is not only about cleanliness but also about contributing to a cooperative and respectful workplace culture, complying with civil service policies, collective bargaining agreements, and departmental regulations. This position is well suited for individuals who are detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to providing a clean, safe, and hospitable environment within a long-term care healthcare setting. While this role may sometimes involve stressful situations due to emergency responses or multiple competing duties, it presents a fulfilling opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of residents and the broader community served by the Health Center.
