Job Description

Douglas County Health Center is a long-term care facility dedicated to providing high-quality medical and residential services to its community. Reporting directly to the Housekeeping Manager or designee, the incumbent will be responsible for performing a variety of housekeeping and laundry duties. This includes sanitizing, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, trash removal, and caring for soiled laundry using designated products and following dilution protocols. The role requires compliance with safety policies related to biohazards and chemical spills, ensuring the protection of both employees and residents. The Housekeeper/Laundry Attendant must establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, other county employees, and public officials, demonstrating professionalism and respect at all times. This position involves assisting with moving furniture and equipment, transporting clean laundry items to units, and performing dismissal cleaning of facility rooms to prepare for new residents or events. Operating and cleaning power equipment such as vacuums and floor scrubbers are also part of the job, along with responding promptly to emergency codes. Attendance at in-service training programs and participation in quality assurance activities are essential components of the role. The job demands physical work in both indoor and outdoor environments, requiring frequent lifting, walking, bending, and balancing. The incumbent should be ready to work shifts that include weekends, holidays, and possible overtime or emergency call-ins. This is a hands-on role that requires dedication and response to the dynamic needs of a healthcare facility. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check
  • Completion of a physical assessment
  • Successful completion of a conditional offer drug screen
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Availability to work shifts including weekends, holidays and emergency call-ins
  • Ability to follow safety policies and procedures for biohazards and chemical spills
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Prior experience in housekeeping or cleaning services preferred
  • Ability to follow safety policies and procedures
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic knowledge of infection control and cleaning standards
  • Ability to attend in-service training and quality assurance activities

Job Duties

  • Perform assigned duties e.g. sanitizing, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, trash removal, gathering soiled laundry using designated products and following dilution protocols
  • Follow safety policies and procedures for biohazards and chemical spills
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public
  • Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment
  • Assist in moving/arranging furniture and equipment
  • Transport clean laundry items and resident clothing to units
  • Empty and clean trash receptacles/smoking urns and disposal units
  • replace plastic liners and deliver refuse to designated collection areas
  • Stock laundry and/or housekeeping cart, and submit order forms for supplies replenishment
  • Perform dismissal cleaning of facility rooms
  • Heat seal identification tags to personal clothing
  • Operate and clean power equipment (e.g. vacuum, wet/dry vacuum, floor scrubber and buffer)
  • Respond to emergency codes (e.g. red, green, silver, black)
  • Attend in-service training programs and meetings
  • Participate in quality assurance activities
  • Assist in the placement of privacy and/or shower curtains
  • Report to work with regular, consistent attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned and directed
