The role of a Housekeeping Technician at Newton-Wellesley Hospital is pivotal in maintaining a clean, safe, and habitable environment that meets departmental standards critical to patient care and hospital operations. This position focuses on routine cleaning and sanitizing activities in patient rooms, bathrooms, administrative offices, and public areas to ensure that every space is hygienic and welcoming. Candidates will perform tasks such as cleaning patient rooms following discharge, handling linens, sanitizing bathroom fixtures, dusting high surfaces, and restocking supplies to support the hospital’s health and safety protocols.

This role requires meticulous attention to detail and adherence to infection control standards, utilizing hospital-approved disinfectants and cleaning chemicals to uphold a sanitary environment. The housekeeping technician is also responsible for floor care activities including wet and dry mopping, buffing, shampooing, and carpet cleaning, ensuring that all floors and carpeting are maintained to a high standard to prevent slips and falls. Duties extend to cleaning and organizing equipment and supplies, adhering to manufacturer guidelines for the use of cleaning tools and personal protective equipment, ensuring proper safety practices are followed to protect themselves, patients, and staff.

  • Performs routine housekeeping activities to maintain cleanliness and safety
  • cleans patient rooms after discharge
  • picks up and discards trash and soiled linens
  • damp-wipes waste baskets and linen hampers
  • performs high dusting of vents, bed lights, televisions, and high ledges
  • cleans and sanitizes bathrooms using appropriate chemicals
  • restocks toilet tissue, paper towels, and soap
  • replaces shower curtains as needed
  • spot cleans soiled areas
  • places sanitary strips on toilet seats
  • damp wipes telephones, cords, bedside tables, chairs, bed rails, head and foot boards, and furniture
  • damp wipes doorknobs, light switches, window sills, pictures, and other surfaces
  • spot cleans walls and cleans windows
  • strips, damp wipes, and remakes beds upon discharge
  • cycles cleans rooms as assigned
  • uses mess kits on hazardous spills
  • dry mops and wet mops patient room floors and bathrooms
  • damp wipes office furniture, computer terminals, telephones, and file cabinets in administrative areas
  • dry mops floors and vacuums carpets
  • moves furniture to clean floors and carpets
  • strips, refinishes, buffs, shines, shampoos, and spot cleans floors and carpets
  • sweeps, wet mops, dry mops, and buffs hallways and stairways
  • organizes housekeeping closets
  • damp wipes walls periodically
  • scrubs sinks
  • ensures equipment and supplies are available and in proper working order
  • uses equipment and supplies following manufacturer guidelines
  • cleans and restocks cleaning carts
  • uses personal protective equipment and follows safety protocols
  • greets patients and visitors courteously
  • recognizes needs for clinical assistance and calls healthcare workers
  • leaves welcome cards after cleaning each room
  • assists in moving and discarding heavy furniture when needed
