The role of Environmental Service Worker at Jersey City Medical Center, part of RWJBarnabas Health, offers a critical function within the Environmental Services Department. This part-time, night shift position is compensated at $19.79 per hour and requires the successful candidate to work primarily during the 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM shift. As an Environmental Service Worker, the employee will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of patient rooms, nursing stations, ancillary areas, and other designated spaces throughout the facility. The role is essential to supporting the overall medical center objectives by ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Duties include following standardized cleaning procedures, handling emergency spills, managing waste and recyclables, operating cleaning equipment like floor buffers and carpet shampooers, and restocking supplies such as paper towels and soaps in dispensers.

This position also requires readiness to manage bulk trash removal and execute patient discharge cleaning through a detailed nine-step cleaning procedure. Coordination of room arrangements for meetings or community events is another aspect of the role. Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform multiple cleaning techniques with appropriate equipment and chemical solutions are critical for success in this position. Candidates are expected to adhere strictly to safety standards and hospital infection control policies. The Environmental Service Worker must also report equipment maintenance needs and promptly return from breaks and errands, ensuring continuous support to the department's operations.

Ideal candidates will have completed a general and department-specific orientation upon hire, with preferences given to those holding a high school diploma or GED and possessing prior hospital housekeeping experience. The position requires availability for every other weekend and holidays based on department needs, emphasizing flexibility in scheduling.
