Job Description
RWJBarnabas Health is a leading healthcare provider in New Jersey, recognized for its commitment to delivering exceptional patient care, innovative medical education, and cutting-edge research. As the premier academic health system in the state, RWJBarnabas Health serves a diverse community through a network of medical centers, including the Jersey City Medical Center. The organization focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of local residents by addressing both clinical and social determinants of health. RWJBarnabas Health fosters a work environment that emphasizes compassion, equity, and collaboration among its employees, supporting their professional growth and personal wellbeing.
The Jersey City Medical Center, a vital part of the RWJBarnabas Health network, offers comprehensive medical services and advanced healthcare programs. It provides a robust platform for healthcare professionals to contribute meaningfully to the community while advancing their careers. Employees at Jersey City Medical Center benefit from a supportive work culture, competitive compensation, and extensive benefits that encompass physical, emotional, financial, and career development resources.
The Environmental Service Worker role at Jersey City Medical Center is an important part-time position within the Environmental Services Department, offering a day shift schedule. The role pays $19.79 per hour and involves maintaining cleanliness and safety across patient rooms, nursing stations, ancillary areas, and other designated locations. This position is ideal for individuals who value a consistent work schedule, including weekends and holidays on a rotating basis, and have an interest in supporting a healthy and sterile hospital environment.
Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Department, the Environmental Service Worker plays a critical role in upholding the Medical Center's high standard of cleanliness and infection control. Responsibilities include cleaning, supplying, and maintaining patient care areas and equipment to ensure optimal conditions for patients, staff, and visitors. This includes performing routine cleaning as well as emergency spill responses and specialized discharge cleaning following a nine-step procedure.
The position requires effective use of cleaning equipment such as carpet shampooers, scrubbers, and buffers, as well as adherence to hospital protocols for waste disposal, including regulated medical waste. Environmental Service Workers also arrange furniture for meetings and community events, maintain stock levels in cleaning closets, and report necessary repairs to ensure a safe and functional environment. The job requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
RWJBarnabas Health supports its Environmental Service Workers with comprehensive training and orientation, and values candidates who bring previous hospital housekeeping experience or a GED or high school diploma, although these are preferred rather than required. Employees receive competitive pay and a wide range of benefits including paid time off, retirement plans, health and dental insurance, tuition reimbursement, wellness programs, and community engagement opportunities.
As an equal opportunity employer, RWJBarnabas Health is committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring a respectful workplace where everyone has the chance to thrive. This job opportunity is ideal for those seeking meaningful part-time work in a respected healthcare institution dedicated to improving the lives of New Jersey residents through quality healthcare and community service.
