Job Description
Shepherd Center is a renowned healthcare institution with over five decades of experience dedicated to providing world-class clinical care, groundbreaking research, and comprehensive family support primarily for individuals facing the most complex medical conditions. These include spinal cord and brain injuries, multi-trauma, traumatic amputations, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and chronic pain. Recognized nationally, Shepherd Center is ranked among the top hospitals for rehabilitation by U.S. News and World Report. It is also distinguished as both a Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury Model System. Unique within the rehabilitation landscape, Shepherd Center operates the only facility in the United States with an on-site intensive care unit, enabling them to care for the most critically ill patients and initiate rehabilitation treatments promptly and efficiently. Shepherd Center treats thousands of patients each year, providing unmatched expertise and deep compassion to help individuals and their families begin a new chapter of life after devastating injuries or illnesses.
Shepherd Center fosters a workplace culture grounded in hope, humor, and hard work, emphasizing supportive relationships among coworkers and leadership. This culture contributes to exceptional employee retention, with over 12% of staff having tenure exceeding 20 years. The organization is committed to career growth, providing employees with ongoing opportunities for professional development and engagement through fun activities and meaningful initiatives.
The Environmental Services Aide role at Shepherd Center is integral to maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the facility, ensuring patient and public safety. This position requires adhering to proper cleaning procedures and techniques, especially given the complex patient population and the healthcare environment. The Environmental Services Aide works as a collaborative member of the team, entrusted with the responsibility to maintain assigned areas in a clean and sanitary condition. This includes routine terminal cleaning of patient and exam rooms, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and the proper removal and disposal of waste materials. Recognizing the significant impact that a clean and safe facility has on patients, visitors, and staff, Environmental Services Aides prioritize positive public relations while performing their duties. They seek continually to improve the appearance and hygiene standards of the Shepherd Center environment.
This full-time role offers an exceptional opportunity for candidates who are motivated by a purpose-driven mission and the prospect of working in a leading rehabilitation setting. It is well suited for individuals who bring attention to detail, flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, effective communication skills, and a strong work ethic. While previous housekeeping experience in healthcare is preferred, it is not mandatory, and on-the-job training is provided. The position demands physical stamina, including the ability to bend, twist, stoop, and perform repetitive physical tasks. Candidates should also be comfortable with walking and standing for prolonged periods and capable of pushing and pulling equipment as needed. An understanding of safety protocols related to exposure to bodily fluids and cleaning chemicals is essential to minimize risk.
Joining Shepherd Center means becoming part of a dedicated team that strives to enhance the quality of life for patients through excellence in rehabilitation care. Employees enjoy a respectful, friendly work environment with robust support from management and colleagues, as well as access to resources and benefits that promote work-life balance and personal growth. This position challenges individuals to contribute meaningfully to a leading healthcare organization committed to innovative care, research, and compassionate service.
