This role involves performing a variety of important duties within the Environmental Services Department to maintain cleanliness and meet high department standards for environmental safety and hygiene. Employees in this position play a critical role in supporting the overall patient experience by ensuring sanitary conditions across hospital areas. The role requires adherence to detailed procedural guidelines related to cleaning, trash removal, waste disposal, equipment operation, team collaboration, and problem-solving. The employee is expected to report to work punctually, properly attired in uniform with readiness to perform assigned tasks.
Key responsibilities include routine inspection and cleaning of assigned areas, timely completion of tasks, and immediate correction of any discrepancies such as spills or overflowing trash. The position also involves regular trash management duties including handling recycling, medical waste, and trash bins while strictly following department policies for safety and contamination prevention. Operating equipment such as electric tow tractors is part of daily responsibilities with utmost attention to safety protocols.
Teamwork and leadership qualities are essential in this role. The employee is expected to contribute to team objectives, uphold mutual respect among colleagues, adapt to changing environments, and handle stressful situations with composure. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are vital to effectively address issues that arise, pursue solutions, and solicit advice when needed. Additionally, project floor care duties to improve the appearance of floors will be performed as assigned.
Candidates for this position should have a high school diploma or GED preferred and a minimum of six months demonstrated customer service-related work experience. Successful completion of a department-specific training program is required to ensure competence in all assigned duties. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a collaborative spirit as part of the patient care team are highly valued. Job Duties
- Follows department procedures related to cleaning and operations to ensure a safe and clean environment in all areas
- Responsible for reporting to work on time properly completing the time card in uniform and ready to work
- Inspects assigned area and immediately corrects observed discrepancies such as spills on floor or trash cans overflowing
- Completes all cleaning assignments within pre-determined time limits as instructed by supervisor
- Performs various trash removal duties to maintain cleanliness and appearance including relining trash bins and adhering to established pick-up times
- Operates electric tow tractors and scooters ensuring safe operation at all times
- Works towards team objectives to provide quality service throughout the hospital and initiates activities in support of YNHHS mission and values
