Job Description
The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) is a distinguished tertiary care academic medical center situated in the heart of downtown Washington, DC, adjacent to the Foggy Bottom metro station. As a 395-bed facility, GW Hospital serves a richly diverse patient population, extending from local residents to national leaders. Renowned for its specialized and complex care, the hospital is committed to delivering superior healthcare through advanced medical technology and a broad spectrum of clinical expertise. This expertise encompasses cardiac care, cancer treatment, neurosciences, women’s health, trauma services, and cutting-edge surgical advances including robotic and minimally invasive procedures. GW Hospital is jointly owned and operated by George Washington University and a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), fostering an environment deeply rooted in both academic excellence and extensive healthcare experience. The attached GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), the 11th oldest medical center in the nation and the first in the country’s capital, enriches the hospital's mission to integrate education, research, and clinical care.
GW Hospital has consistently garnered recognition for its quality and compassionate healthcare, prominently reflected in its rankings in the 2023-2024 U.S. News & World Report as a Best Regional Hospital. It ranks 5th amongst hospitals across the District of Columbia and parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Additionally, the hospital achieved “High Performing” status in neurology and neuroscience, with further high-performing designations in ten specialized procedures such as COPD, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, various cancers, pneumonia, and stroke. Notably, GW Hospital is the only hospital in Washington, D.C., recognized with the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry Chest Pain – Myocardial Infarction Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2023. The collaborative relationship with Children’s National Hospital, ranked second nationwide for neonatology, further underscores GW Hospital’s commitment to excellence in neonatal care.
The hospital is designated as a Level I Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, reinforcing its role as a leading healthcare provider regionally and nationally. At GW Hospital, the dedication to advanced clinical services is complemented by ongoing research and educational programs designed to enhance patient outcomes and expand knowledge across medical disciplines.
The Cleaning Technician role at GW Hospital plays a vital part in maintaining a safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This position involves performing a variety of cleaning and disinfecting tasks in patient rooms, hallways, offices, and public spaces of the hospital. The technician ensures that environmental and infection control standards comply with the hospital’s policies and regulatory requirements, which is critical in fostering a safe healthcare environment. Responsibilities include replenishing supplies, managing cleaning equipment and inventories, and promptly addressing cleaning needs to uphold the high standards expected at GW Hospital. This role requires a strong commitment to detail, safety, and customer service, supporting overall patient care quality by sustaining a hygienic and orderly hospital setting.
This position offers a competitive compensation package and generous paid time off, alongside excellent medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug plans. Employees also benefit from a 401(k) retirement plan with company match and access to a discounted stock purchase program. Additional perks include the SoFi Student Loan Refinancing Program, and abundant career development opportunities across Universal Health Services and its more than 300 subsidiaries. Working at GW Hospital means joining a dynamic team dedicated to healthcare excellence, innovation, and community impact, where every employee contributes to meaningful patient outcomes and organizational success. The hospital is committed to equal employment opportunities and upholding an inclusive workplace respectful of diversity across all dimensions.
