The position of Direct Support Staff at Strategies to Empower People is an exciting entry-level opportunity designed for compassionate, patient, and creative individuals who want to make a real difference in people’s lives. The role entails providing hands-on, in-home, and community support to adults with a variety of disabilities. This involves direct assistance with daily activities such as hygiene, meal preparation, personal growth, and money management. Support is also extended in developing relationships within the community, promoting personal health management, and encouraging independence. One distinct feature of this role is the potential necessity of American Sign Language (ASL) skills, as the position supports individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. While ASL skills are preferred, STEP also welcomes applicants who are willing to learn and develop those skills on the job, with support from both clients and colleagues.

Compensation for this position ranges from $16.90 per hour for asleep shifts to $18.25 per hour for awake shifts, with some variations depending on the schedule and ASL proficiency. The role is flexible with a variety of schedules including weekday shifts, overnight, and weekend shifts, allowing employees to find an availability that fits their lifestyle. In addition, positions that require driving may necessitate a valid California Driver License, current auto insurance, and a clean Motor Vehicle Record.
