Job Description

Performance Foodservice (PFG) is a leading broadline distributor with a unique and valued relationship with a diverse range of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company thrives on providing not only a comprehensive selection of quality food products but also expert guidance to its customers. This guidance comes from a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other specialists who work collaboratively to support improvements in operations, menu development, product selection, and overall business strategies. PFG's commitment goes beyond simply delivering food; the company aims to empower independent restaurant owners and other clients to achieve their dreams by offering exceptional support and partnerships. Operating within a dynamic and growing food distribution industry, PFG emphasizes a safe, inclusive, and rewarding work culture that champions employee recognition and respect.

The Driver Trainee role at Performance Foodservice is an entry-level position designed to train and develop new drivers in safely operating tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate deliveries. Drivers will gain experience delivering a variety of food and food-related products along local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. The position demands strict adherence to company policies as well as Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, emphasizing safety and professional customer service. Drivers work closely with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring all deliveries and services conform to preferred work methods and customer expectations. The role offers a solid foundation for those beginning a career in commercial driving, with structured training programs such as the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program to enhance skills and knowledge.

Drivers can expect a typical work schedule of Monday through Friday, with the possibility of layovers and occasional Saturdays, working upwards of 12-hour days. Both four- and five-day work weeks are available, offering some flexibility to accommodate personal preferences. Compensation is competitive, with drivers earning an average of $83,000 annually. Additional benefits include Day 1 health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and much more. The company fosters growth opportunities by supporting drivers as they perform essential work that keeps America’s food distribution system running smoothly. The work environment encourages teamwork, offers rewards and recognition, and prioritizes the safety and well-being of every employee. This comprehensive support system makes the Driver Trainee role an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to start a rewarding career in commercial driving within a respected and growing organization.
