Job Description
PFG Customized Distribution is a key player in the foodservice distribution industry, serving some of America’s most recognized national chain restaurants such as Cracker Barrel, TGI Friday’s, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, and Ruby Tuesday. The company specializes in providing customized distribution solutions tailored to meet the unique needs of its clients. By offering centralized contact for product lines, menu changes, and account coordination, PFG Customized excels in delivering reliable, efficient, and personalized service to its customers across the United States and in more than 40 countries worldwide. With a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence, PFG Customized Distribution is part of a larger network that upholds high standards in food distribution to support the growth and success of its clients in the competitive restaurant industry.
This entry-level Driver Trainee position at PFG Customized Distribution is designed to provide comprehensive training and hands-on experience for individuals seeking to develop a career in commercial driving within the food distribution sector. The role involves learning to safely operate tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. Trainees will be engaged in delivering a variety of food and food-related products to customers, ensuring adherence to all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This position offers a minimum weekly guaranteed pay of $1,350, with an average annual salary ranging from $70,000 to $80,000, making it a financially rewarding opportunity for motivated individuals.
The Driver Trainee schedule includes working a minimum of four days per week, with shifts dispatched between 7 pm and 3 am, encompassing Sundays through Saturdays. Sign-on bonuses are available, with $7,500 offered to candidates with foodservice delivery experience and $5,000 for those without such experience. The role supports team driving efforts and provides multiple growth opportunities within the company, emphasizing a safe and inclusive working environment that fosters a culture of rewards, recognition, and respect.
The training program requires successful completion of the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, which includes ride-alongs with an experienced driver trainer to develop skills in performing deliveries and conducting safety inspections. Trainees will learn to perform all necessary pre-trip and post-trip safety checks on equipment, verify that freight is properly loaded and secured, complete accurate paperwork, and provide outstanding customer service at delivery points. Additional responsibilities include unloading and loading product returns, managing customer interactions professionally, maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of the truck and loading dock areas, and accurately logging hours of service in compliance with DOT, state, and company regulations. This hands-on experience is essential for building the skills and knowledge needed to advance within the company and the transportation industry.
PFG Customized Distribution’s commitment to equal employment opportunity ensures that this position is open to applicants from diverse backgrounds without discrimination. The company adheres to policies that promote fairness and inclusion across all aspects of employment, supporting a positive and collaborative workplace. Overall, this role is ideal for individuals who are eager to start a career as professional drivers while contributing to the nation’s food distribution system, benefiting from comprehensive training, competitive pay, and a supportive work environment.
