The Entree Cook will be responsible for cooking a variety of entrees, vegetables, starches, sauces, and soups, adhering strictly to standardized recipes and prescribed diet plans including pureed, salt-free, mechanical soft, renal, and ADA-restricted diets. In addition to food preparation, the role involves essential kitchen operations such as equipment handling, maintaining hygienic standards, food storage temperature monitoring, and supporting food service logistics.

Job Requirements

  • Less than high school education required
  • Related experience in food preparation or cooking
  • Food Handlers Card certification required upon hire
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Availability to work day shifts
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and diet prescriptions
  • Strong sense of hygiene and food safety practices

Job Qualifications

  • Less than high school education required
  • Technical training diploma or specialized vocational training preferred
  • Related experience in food preparation or cooking
  • Food Handlers Card certification upon hire
  • Ability to operate a variety of kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of dietary restrictions and therapeutic diets
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Job Duties

  • Prepare entrees, vegetables, starches, sauces and soups
  • Prepare, season and cook food according to standardized recipes and specifications
  • Set up and service meals in accordance with established schedule and procedures
  • Cook items using various kitchen equipment such as ovens, choppers, mixers, blenders, grills, braisers, turbo chef, range, steamer, food processor, fryer, slicer, infrared broiler and knives
  • Store and maintain food items at safe temperatures according to department guidelines and health department regulations
  • Conduct food temperature checks of all menu items before and during service and document appropriately
  • Conduct temperature checks of refrigeration units and document on temperature log forms
  • Plan and implement cooking process to ensure timely meal readiness
  • Ensure all foods meet quality, freshness, taste and appearance standards
  • Inspect and maintain cooking equipment and utensils for cleanliness and safety
  • Review production count and adjust based on census and supervisor instructions
  • Maintain required sanitary levels throughout food preparation process
  • Plan daily production schedule incorporating cafeteria, special menu needs and patient tally
  • Verify food and supply items from storeroom and requisition additional items if required
