Job Description
American Airlines is recognized as the largest airline in the world, connecting millions of passengers to countless destinations globally. Renowned for its exceptional commitment to customer service and innovation, American Airlines embraces a culture where employees are encouraged to grow personally and professionally. The company operates with a diverse, high-performing team dedicated to technical excellence, continuously striving to deliver unrivaled digital products that bolster a more reliable and profitable airline. The workplace fosters a dynamic environment where inclusion and diversity lay the foundation for connecting team members with customers, communities, and shareholders, opening doors for individuals to reach their full potential in a supportive and engaging setting.
The role on offer is within the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) domain at American Airlines, a critical area responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and availability of the company’s software systems and platforms. The position provides a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the world's largest airlines by embracing innovative practices that enable velocity while maintaining system stability. The SRE team focuses on automating manual processes, monitoring system health, improving application availability, and preventing incidents that could impact the customer experience. Working collaboratively, the SRE role drives technical excellence through designing, coding, and delivering solutions that reduce toil and improve operational workflows.
This role is designed for candidates motivated by technological challenges and passionate about enhancing system reliability from end to end. Responsibilities include ensuring stakeholders are aware of reliability concerns, designing automation to combat manual operational overhead (often referred to as "toil"), and participating in on-call rotations to effectively address and resolve system issues. The position also involves collaborating with product and platform owners to define service level objectives (SLOs) and indicators (SLIs), managing reliability performance, championing reliability as a critical product feature, and creating comprehensive documentation including dashboards, reports, and operational runbooks.
American Airlines values a proactive approach, and this role requires strong technical knowledge across diverse platforms, including a solid grasp of programming languages like Python and JavaScript, relational databases, and Windows environments. Preferred qualifications include advanced degrees and experience in the airline industry. The company supports a balanced work-life culture, with ample opportunities for career development, travel perks, and comprehensive health and wellness benefits.
Joining American Airlines means being part of a team dedicated to technical innovation and customer satisfaction on a global scale. Employees are empowered to be their best, with support through wellness programs, 401(k) contributions, travel benefits, and more. This is an exceptional opportunity to make a meaningful impact on one of the leading airlines while advancing your professional skills in a forward-thinking, inclusive environment.
