Job Description
General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is a leading defense contractor specializing in high-technology solutions, products, and services that assist customers in accomplishing critical missions globally. With a formidable workforce exceeding 12,000 professionals, GDMS partners with various industry leaders to drive innovation across multiple domains, including cyber security, undersea operations, and interstellar technologies. They are known for their commitment to trust, honesty, transparency, and alignment with their stakeholders, creating a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Their cutting-edge work empowers national security and intelligence missions, making them a pivotal player in the defense sector.
This opening is for an LCS (Littoral Combat Ship) Mission Package General Technician position based at the Port Hueneme Naval Station in Oxnard, California. This role involves providing hands-on technical support for one of the U.S. Navy's most advanced warship programs. The technician will engage in a range of tasks including maintenance, mission module movements, pre-embark staging, and logistical support, all crucial to ensuring the operational readiness of the LCS platforms. This full-time, onsite position requires a candidate who is willing to travel up to 40% domestically and internationally to various ports, supporting deployment and sustainment operations.
The LCS Mission Package General Technician will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and government personnel. Responsibilities include corrective and preventative maintenance, equipment installation and removal, conducting experiments, and process improvement initiatives. The technician will handle a variety of technologies such as electrical systems, software, manufacturing processes, and optical devices, often operating under general supervision but with a significant degree of autonomy. The ability to work in confined spaces onboard Navy vessels, lift heavy equipment, and adhere to safety and operational protocols is essential.
Applicants must meet stringent security clearance requirements, specifically holding a Department of Defense Secret security clearance at the time of hire. This necessitates U.S. citizenship and successful completion of a government security investigation. Physical fitness to work in challenging navy environments and compliance with Navy maintenance standards and materials management (3M) are critical. Proficiency with test and repair equipment, standard office software, and clear communication skills are also required to excel in this role.
GDMS values continuous learning and encourages its employees to develop their professional skills while contributing to high-stakes national defense missions. The ideal candidate will have a background in Navy maintenance, experience with surface warfare systems, strong teamwork orientation, and creative problem-solving abilities. Compensation ranges from approximately $31.37 to $34.41 per hour, reflecting experience and location. The company offers competitive benefits and is an equal opportunity employer that embraces diversity and inclusion.
