Job Description
Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is a globally recognized leader in consulting and engineering, specializing in energy and the built environment sectors. With a workforce of approximately 40,000 professionals operating across more than 60 countries, Wood is committed to providing innovative consulting, project delivery, and operational solutions to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The company's reputation for excellence and dedication to sustainable development make it an employer of choice for professionals seeking impactful and rewarding career opportunities. Wood is distinguished not only by its technical expertise but also by a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion, ensuring equal employment opportunities for all qualified candidates regardless of background or personal characteristics.
Currently, Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking Engineering Technicians to join its team in the Savannah area. This position is categorized under an 'other' employment type, indicating a specialized or non-traditional employment structure. Engineering Technicians will play a critical role in supporting a variety of projects by serving primarily as calibrations technicians. The role requires hands-on technical experience involving soil and concrete laboratory and field equipment, underscoring the necessity for precision and adherence to quality standards.
The Engineering Technician will be responsible for calibrating critical equipment used in soil and concrete testing, which demands a keen eye for detail, analytical skills for data validation, and familiarity with industry standards. Daily activities include performing density testing of soils, sampling and testing concrete both in field and laboratory settings, and conducting concrete reinforcing steel inspections. The engineer will also analyze or calculate testing data to ensure accuracy and reliability, providing daily reports to document observations and results comprehensively.
Compliance with project specifications is a key aspect of the role, necessitating close monitoring of work procedures to guarantee that client and regulatory standards are met. Interaction with client representatives such as supervisors, foremen, project managers, and engineers at project sites is regular, requiring excellent communication skills and professionalism. Additionally, the position will involve traveling within and around Savannah, specifically within a two-hour radius, enabling the technician to support multiple sites efficiently.
Candidates are expected to have prior experience with equipment calibration and bring at least two years of related experience on complex projects, preferably with certifications such as ICC soils, ACI concrete, ICC concrete reinforcing steel, ICC masonry, or NPDES Level 1A or 1B. A High School Diploma or equivalent is the minimum education requirement. A valid driver's license is mandatory, as well as the ability to work in various outdoor conditions, lift up to 50 lbs, and work overtime as needed. Reliability and punctuality are critical, as is the ability to prepare detailed reports and documentation.
The role demands passing a drug test, physical examination, background check, and maintaining a satisfactory driving record in compliance with the company’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) policy. Wood’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment where every employee is valued is reflected in their diversity statement, which highlights equal opportunity employment without discrimination based on race, color, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status or any other protected characteristics.
This opportunity presents a dynamic and impactful career path for Engineering Technicians eager to grow their expertise in a leading global company that values innovation, quality, safety, and inclusivity. Interested candidates should be prepared to engage in meaningful technical work that supports sustainable construction and infrastructure development projects.
