Job Description
This position is with a hospitality establishment, likely a hotel or resort, given the references to guest services, property maintenance, and hotel/resort-specific responsibilities. The company is focused on maintaining high standards of guest satisfaction and financial profitability through effective engineering management. The establishment prioritizes safety, operational excellence, and operational readiness of its facilities and systems. This role is a supervisory and managerial position within the engineering department, with a salary of $32 per hour, emphasizing both people management and technical expertise.
The role primarily assists the Chief Engineer in overseeing all engineering activities to ensure the smooth operation of the property's systems and services. This includes managing engineering teams, maintaining compliance with safety and operational regulations, and ensuring that guest and team member satisfaction standards are consistently met or exceeded. The position requires active participation in hiring, training, and performance appraisal of team members, fostering a productive and motivated workforce through coaching, mentoring, and accountability. Maintaining a safe property environment is critical, with responsibilities including safety coordination, emergency system checks, and adherence to OSHA and hazardous material protocols.
In addition to overseeing daily maintenance and operational tasks, the role involves strategic functions such as budgeting, forecasting, and inventory control to maximize financial performance while maintaining quality standards. The individual in this role must be adept at analyzing reports and making informed decisions that support the property’s profitability and operational efficiency. The role requires hands-on involvement in property inspections to identify maintenance needs and to implement improvements that enhance guest satisfaction and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
The successful candidate must have a broad knowledge base in building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, roofing, and energy management. They must demonstrate strong leadership skills capable of managing a diverse team in a dynamic hospitality environment. The role demands excellent communication skills, attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to remain calm and effective under pressure, particularly during emergencies or peak operational periods. Physical demands require regular walking, standing, and handling of equipment with the ability to lift significant weight when necessary. Visual acuity and safety awareness are essential, as is the ability to use various software tools including Word, Excel, and specialized energy management systems.
This position typically requires flexible working hours to meet the needs of the hospitality industry, including weekends, holidays, and alternative shifts. The company emphasizes professionalism, a clean appearance, and a courteous demeanor aligned with its commitment to excellent guest service. The role offers an opportunity for career growth within the hospitality engineering field, particularly for candidates with vocational training, military experience, or formal education in engineering or facility management. Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish, are preferred to better serve a diverse guest and team member population.
